Re: 22 year old guy having sex with a 16 year old girl
However, I doubt that any of us know this girl personally, so we have to look at her as a general sixteen year old: immature, stupid.
Wanting to protect our children from sexual predators is mainly an American-based view? Well, looks like I won't be moving anywhere else...
That's what this is all about. Nobody's questioning its legality (except matt, but he's a retard), because the law doesn't have a problem with it. I don't care what other countries say about age of consent and how you think that might tie to maturity (age of consent only cares about the bare minimum understanding of what a person is undertaking, not about any of the myriad other effects sex has). American sixteen year olds just plain aren't very mature, and regardless of what whacko Spain says about kids, American laws should apply only to American kids. I'm not saying that they're wrong, but I certainly wouldn't say that we are or we aren't. Like I said, the law only has responsibility and jurisdiction over the bare minimum, and consent laws reflect that, I believe. I'm not going to argue the state's point in this matter, but I will certainly argue the level of appropriateness of a 22/16 sexual relationship.

It's mainly an American-based view that will say that this is wrong. It's just the way we were raised and how the laws are stated.
