I'm against it.
I just don't think girls or guys at that age can make rational decisions that are in their best interest with all the hormonal and societial pressure coming down upon them. They hear how cool it is from their friends, media, and music. I realize that there are always exceptions, but I feel that in most cases it'd be better to restrict that decision making ability until they became an adult (18).
PS: Dewayne, you seem like a pretty intelligent guy, and a good poster from what I can see. I hope to see you perhaps take a more active role within the community in terms of posting and creating topics. We could always use another good poster.

I respectfully disagree. Or at least, I don't think there is nearly as substantial a difference as you seem to think between 16 and 18 year olds. In fact, given the difference between highschool (which is free to the student, light on homework, and full of time for socialising) and college (where you are paying or racking up loan interest, and every course you fail adds more time to your degree) I think the pressures are generally less.I just don't think girls or guys at that age can make rational decisions that are in their best interest with all the hormonal and societial pressure coming down upon themComment

The age of consent laws in the United States have so many completely idiotic circumstances that I'm amazed they manage to exist without heavy changing.
There was a news story posted onto FFR a while ago about a 14 year old girl babysitting an 8 year old boy. She dared him to touch her breasts, and -HE- was charged (8 years old) with committing a lewd sex act with a minor.
I also like how American laws make it so a 16 year old girl with naked photos of -herself- on her computer was charged with possession of child pornography.

well first of all, I don't see why a 22 year old man would be considered a "pedophile" for wanting to screw a 16 year old girl. I mean, what young, healthy man (in exception to a homosexual one, not saying that's unhealthy) would not take interest in hooking up with an attractive teenaged girl? When you think about it, it's really only six years off. My parents are six years off. Is there anything really wrong with that? I dont think the dude was really aiming for a full-scale realtionship...I think he just wanted some action.
It seemed ok to me though, she gave consent and the guy did seem kind of freaked out when he found out she was only 16.

Did some research. Here's what I came up with:
Even though the 16 year old girl gives consent, it would still be considered rape because the girl is under the age of 18.
Consent may be absent due to duress arising from the use, or threat, of overwhelming force or violence, or because the subject is incapacitated in some way such as intoxication or being underage. In some cases coercion might also be used to negate consent.
The lack of valid consent does not necessarily mean that the victim explicitly refused to give consent. Generally, consent is considered invalid if it is obtained from someone who is below the age of consent defined in that jurisdiction. Sexual activity involving a person below the age of consent is often known as statutory rape although some jurisdictions prefer terms such as "unlawful sexual intercourse" to avoid the forcible connotation of the word.
Statutory rape (sometimes called "rape of a child", "corruption of a minor", "carnal knowledge of a minor" and so on) is the crime of sex with a minorage of consent (AOC), the age at which individuals are considered competent to give consent to sexual conduct. Statutory rape differs from other types of rape in that overt force or threat need not be present. By law (statute), any such sexual activity is assumed to be coercive since the minor is considered by law to be incapable of giving consent to the acts.
Age of consent is usually the age at which an individual can legally have intercourse with an adult, but in some jurisdictions the AOC establishes the minimum age of sexual conduct with anyone, regardless of age.
