thats just it. i think it answered the question wrong because it DIDNT understand the question, because its not programed to answer a question like that, so it gave whatever answer it could that would catagorize as "math".... thats my theory....

I think (shouts) East Siiide (stops shouting) has a point here, Guido. You really *can't* prove it was sarcasm. Hell, some people might say you can't prove *anything*. Lets start with a simple example, just for gits and shiggles. In 100 words or less, prove the existence of God. Ready? Go!

Edit due to ninja'dness: Oh yeah, and I forgot. Bots, like all machines, are atrocious at math. It's a good thing they have those Laplace Transforms hardwired into their processors or they'd never get *anything* done.

Much as I'm loath to invoke it, think of Occam's Razor, guys.

Option 1: coberst is a guy who just likes getting off to posting his prolix-filled essays on discussion boards.

Option 2: coberst is a bot designed by a guy to only post essays in particular forums for no personal gain. It can understand complex responses and reply to them, but when asked a simple math question, the programmer designed the bot to make several posts with random numbers.

Let's be real, guys.

i dont think it really understands the posts....

im not gonna go quote the thread, but i searched and read in one coberst started. coberst never made any personal connection to anything. generally when debating, youd give some personal intake on what youre debating about. you give reason as to why youre debating your point.

when someone replied, he didnt try to argue back, or agree, or anything. he kinda said one sentence and then went on with another essay that seemed to go in a totally different direction.

finally, he quoted another responder to the thread, but only responded two words. "Non sense". i would think coberst would explain why it was nonsense.

again, this ties in to my theory

You know, if you put a lot of thought and concentration into it, you can always understand what Coberst says. The fact that he's just writing something and pulling a thesaurus and replacing every possible word with something that would not be correct in it's place is annoying.

The CT attitude should not be to confuse everyone around you but instead, to engage in thoughtful intelligent debates.

I do not believe Coberst is a bot, but I do believe he writes one thing and posts them on every forum. He looks at some of the replies and delivers a rebuttal to them and posts them everywhere as well. At least we are communicating with him, we told him to address people and he started to! He's still not writing an in-context rebuttals, but he is addressing the person who he thinks is most proper.

By the way, if you approach someone with a random question, they will more or less likely give a bad answer. He clearly does not care too much about his stay here at FFR or else he would've answer Kilga's question seriously. He was "joking" around.

seemed like it was copied and pasted from something..... didnt seem like coberst had sat there and typed it all out....

but thats just looking in one thread.... is there an actual way to PROVE if he is a bot or not? like is an admin able to look or something?

Coberst is in fact... a bot. He is a humanbot created in the year 20310 by the planarians. He was designed to confuse your fragile little minds with impossible riddles of the highest caliber. What is his goal, you might ask?

I know the truth. His goal is venture capital. What is venture capital you might ask???

Well, as defined by wikipedia it is this:

Guys, I can't believe you don't understand what Guido is saying.

You guys truly think that if he answered that the square root of 16 is 12, that means he's a bot? Come on now. If anything, his answer cements the fact that he is NOT a bot, but a person.

Let's look at it logically now. Somehow the bot recognized that you asked a math question, and yet.... gave a random number as an answer? IF THE BOT CAN RECOGNIZE THAT YOU ASKED A MATH QUESTION, WHY CAN'T IT PERFORM THE MATH QUESTION? I'll tell you right now, it's easy as hell to program a bot to do math on numbers once they have been recognized. It's EASY. Freaking EASY. The hard part is getting the bot to recognize that you are asking a math question.

Now, since the "bot" recognized that you asked a math question, it has to be a really, really, really good bot. So why would the bot respond with the wrong answer? There's no reason for it to.

I can't believe this ****. You guys are amazing. Coberst is ****ing with you, and you're falling for it. I hate this guy even more now, because he's actually showing you guys up.

I am absolutely sure now that coberst is not a bot. For him to reply like that cements the idea for me that he's simply a guy who likes posting his ridiculous essays. Believing anything otherwise, after seeing him reply "12" to a math question, proves that you are an idiot.
