I usually never drink soft drinks UNLESS I eat fast food, which is about once a week.

So that's like.. twenty-one bottles of 16.9 fluid ounces of water a week..
And.. half of a 20 ounce soda (I never drink the whole thing, xD) a week..

My Grandfather has had a couple of cokes everday since he was 12, he's 77 years old now and does not have headaches, is skinny, mild mannered and more relaxed than your constant seizures about soda. I've been drinking soda and have none of those traits except I could stand to lose a few pounds. However, I have lost weight before by switching to diet coke and eating right.

Smoking is harmful in a singular way, soda on other hand combines several ways one could get really sick and miserable and the fact that there is a lot more soda drinkers than smokers.

First of all, cigarettes cause cancer, decrease immunities resulting in more colds, flus etc. They affect the arteries and can cause heart disease. All these can KILL. Soda does not have any effects that can KILL someone directly.

Also, your point of that there are more soda drinkers thank smokers doesn't mean that drinking soda is worse than smoking. Nice strawman fallacy there boy.

I don't know if something's wrong with me, but I just -can't- drink water consistently. If I go too long drinking -just- water (for instance a day), everything begins to taste really horrible, no matter what it is. And when I eat anything that tastes horrible, I more often than not throw it up.

Now, while juice and Kool Aid and all that don't result in that same problem, they don't do anything to fix it either. Unless I drink soda (doesn't have to be much, maybe six ounces) at least once a day, I can't eat or drink anything due to the horrible taste. Now granted, the soda does taste horrible while I'm experiencing these "symptoms," but it's the only reliable method of dealing with it I've been able to find.

Of course, this is coming from the same guy whose fingers get extremely uncomfortable if they don't go into a double-jointed position multiple times a minute, and who uses a different dominant side for everything...so it really isn't all that strange compared to my other eccentricities.

It's unfortunate he couldn't debate well, it seemed to make things worse. I'll try to explain things a bit better.

Soda isn't a poison in that if you drink a can, you'll keel over and die instantly. Poison isn't the right word, but it was taken literally when it shouldn't have been. Rather, they significantly contribute to the deterioration of one's health (though, not nearly as much as cigarettes... that was a bad argument). Many of his claims were exaggerations, but it is indeed harmful.

To those who say everything's bad for you: Juice, milk and water are much better than soda. Even sweetened, non-carbonated beverages can be better, though these aren't great. If you absolutely need soda to be happy, I guess you need it, and by all means drink it. If you're like me and enjoy other drinks almost or just as much, make the healthier choice.

To those who say you're 100% healthy and you drink soda, it's because you're still in your teens! It takes a long time before toxins can overcome the defences of the human body. Also, some people can live completely fine and still drink soda if they are otherwise taking care of their body well enough to be able to handle them.

I can actually testify for some of this. Whenever I eat anything with aspartame, I get migranes after which are absolutely horrible. At first, I noticed it was only when I ate gum.. So I googled it and found out some of the info that's been shown here. It said to stop eating it for 3 months to feel better, so I did. It worked, but then I started thinking maybe it was all in my mind. So I started chewing gum again, and I didn't feel anything anymore, so I decided it was stupid.

But then, the headaches started coming back and I felt absolutely drained. The right side of my head also felt numb.. It was really weird, but I think it was part of the migrane. It's strange since I used to eat gum all the time when I was younger and not feel anything, but who knows. All I know is that I'd rather eat sugar anyway. It doesn't have that chemical-ish taste to it.

I don't know if it was doing anything other than giving me migranes, but that was enough to make me stop. All I'm saying is if one of the symptoms occured.. Who's to say it wasn't giving me another one of the symptoms? Like giving me a tumor? I wouldn't know. I'd just rather be safe. And now that I don't ingest aspartame or drink diet sodas or sugar-free anything.. I feel fine. I don't need sodas or gum like I used to. At first, it was hard, but you know what? If you really want to lose weight, don't go for the easy way.. Drink water. (I wasn't trying to lose weight, but it's hard not to find gum that isn't sugarfree) And if you like the taste? Well, I don't know about you, but everyone I know thinks diet soda tastes like crap until they get used to it.

So.. That's just my 2 cents.
