And yes.. indeed.. the topic was about music, but I must point out.
Im talking about emo fashion and... justthe fads.. the things people wear around the streets. It's changing, im not talking about depression and cutting yourself :P
Most emo's dont... that's just a stereotype, more people with non-black hair cut themselves anyways.
Why would they stop doesn't everyone want to be different if we were all the same life would suck, And personally I don't mind emo's I'm not an emo myself but I do hang out with some. They are really nice people.
that's EXACTLY what freaks me out. the ones I know are great people but they really need help. Cutting yourself isnt a good way to relieve stress (since all it leads to is more cutting) and they have these dark views on life that (to me at least) seem unnatual. I hate to stereotype emos but truth be told that for the most part they're goths with a really bad case of self-pity.

guys,emos are just craving attention
why do you feel the need to discuss this any further?
Talking among ourselves isnt really giving them attention. Yes, some might come by and say "O look. someone noticed my pain, my sorrow, my need to find..." and such but for the most part us saying how freaky they are really doesnt make them happy
I will say that we have said everything to say so the last line is probable right.

Sorry, didnt see this post.
Yes, I have noticed a jump in the number of wanna be goths in the Panhandle area
It has seemed that the gangster/hip-hop fad is slowly being replaced with the emo/punk scene.
That is what REALLY annoys me with the teenage society today. Everytime I go to school I see this gangster, who wore bling on his teeth and a chain with a big ass clock just last year, wearing skinny rocker jeans and a fitted tee with an uber awesome emo/hard rock.
What disturbs me even more is that these ****ers don't even know what they are wearing. So I went to one of them one day, just out of pure curiosity:
Me: "Umm, dude, do you even know who Avenged Sevenfold is?"
Da gangster guy: "Naw son. But it be a vicious name tho. Ain't it be a church?"
I said no, and walked away laughing. I did not want to inform him because I don't want to disappoint his little reputation.
Topics like these should never be posted. All it leads to is the disgusting regurgitation of completely baseless horsesh*t.
Neither "scene" is replacing the other. The "true" hip hop has long since died, and gangster crap is alive and well. The original meaning of emo died a few years after it started in the late 80's (don't believe me, look around before you speak)... Punk has nothing to do with emo, and it's disgusting that the two are so often lumped together. And it's even worse when really crappy bands like Fall Out Boy are called "pop-punk", because by its very nature punk can never really be pop. The three Party sayings in 1984 make far more sense.
Why can't we just create a genre called "crap" and be done with it? So many bands of today don't deserve any other distinction. "Uhh... we're... psychobilly 2-step triphop punk post classical emo death metal slow jam. With a little bit of Sting thrown in."

There is real hip hop, still struggling to survive. Dead Prez are one example. They are political activists, who contribute to the community and can write rap music without all the sensless babber about killing and using women. Aesop Rock is also great. Check them both out. I do agree though, that the gross majority of rap is terrible.
It's just unbelievable that hip hop gets such a bad reputation because of the mainstream crap... after all, if you're a fan of any particular genre, you like the good material put out, not the crappy material, right? So the same goes for rock, and all those other multiple use outdated labels.

Hip Hop is still quite strong, just commercially it's very lacking...
There are a lot of artists like Aesop Rock as mentioned and plenty of artists on Anticon and Def-Jux that are still doing it for the music.
As for the whole emo thing, emo is just short for emotional, so in musical terms it's basically anything emotional... someone mentioned that it's different from punk as punk is hardcore, you cant just go throwing genres around really... there are way too many sub-genres about these days to say something isnt something and it's something else.
There are "emo" bands out there which have hardcore aspects to their music, just not all out screaming... it's more melodic...
This is where Hip Hop fits in... Emo has got a reputation because of the whole "Scene" associated with it, Hip Hop had it with being gangsta and having bling and such, now Emo has it with being self harming and depressive...
Fact of the matter is there are plenty of people out there that are depressed and self harm, it doesn't make them emo or craving attention, okay so a lot of these scenesters probably do it for the attention, who knows how their mind works eh...
Thing is i'm not much into all this emo stuff, but I do like a lot of the older bands from like the 90's when it first kicked off as a post-hardcore type genre, Taking Back Sunday and Saves The Day in their earlier works are actually good, and as much as I hate to say it The Used's first album had real good production, but the more modern "emo" just isn't for me really...
Fact of the matter is too many people use Genres and Stereotypes too heavily and interlock them to come to a Musical based stereotype... it's stupid, why can't people just let who someone is be down to how you know them as rather than oh they listen to this, they must be a depressive self harming dolt.
I talk crap, but i'm bored and have nothing better to do...

In short...
Genres mean nothing.
Listen to what you like, leave the rest be and let Genre crazed people worry about what's what.

Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about. I do want to repeat though, that there were lots of horrid bands "back in the good ole days" too.
Fall Out Boy does deserve to be shot. Each and every one of them, and the fact that they're affiliated with punk is disgusting. However, even though pop stands for popular, it more-so means it has a more popular sound, and though very difficult to accomodate to punk it can be done. SR-71 is a pop-punk band and I think they're awesome, and I'm someone who's very very punk.
Now, people, if you actually open your minds and quit being so stupid, you'd understand that 95% of emos don't cut themselves and bitch about their lives. And I guarantee you people ragging on emos complain about your own lives more than your fair share, you just don't grow your hair out, cover your face with it and wear tight pants (the typical emo kid). I know tons of "emo" kids and most of them have never even attempted cutting. I know tons of preps too though, and I can give you the names of 20 that have tried "cutting" themselves because their life is so "bad". And why are you guys going to rip on someone for what they chose to wear or look like? "oh those chick pant wearing, make-up wearing, long hair flipping emo douche bags." I mean, what the hell? Let someone wear what they want to wear, how is it affecting you in any way?
