Completely agreed. I'm in 8th grade, and it drives me nuts. I was involved in one at one point, but it was really just because I felt sorry for the girl who happened to be obsessing over me. She 'broke up' with me after about two weeks (good riddance...) and I've been trying to avoid them since. Although it seems as though I'm a bit of an unwilling ladies...er, teen. I'm a f***ing geek, damnit!

Being as, at the moment I am deeply infatuated with a member of the opposite sex, I feel the need to express my opinion on these matters.

In middle school and high school, the so called "longing for a relationship" feeling is not that of love, but that of surpressed sexual tension. For most, the middle school years are the time in which one hits puberty. The opposite sex (or same sex if you swing that way) becomes more and more irresistable (flavor of the week stage). You want a "relationship" (ultimate goal = sex) but you are too young and immature to handle the responsiblity. Thus, "going out" and "breaking up" occur usually within a week. During High School, you have grown more mature, and can handle long term "relationships" (ultimate goal = sex) better. Thus, you see much more people staying together. But it really isnt love.

You will notice how dumb the idea of going out in middle school is once you get older, and I am sure it will seem the same way for me once I get out of High School. You dont realize how young and immature you are at the moment.

I have been thinking about this a lot, being as I find myself going through these emotions. It is hard, and it sucks 98% of the time. It is difficult to analyize your feelings in such a cold way, but deep down, I know it is true. It isnt "love" that I am experiencing, it is sexual surpression. If you find yourself depressed over a girl/guy, just analyize it in an emotionless why such as I have done, and you will realize how dumb you are.

Ironically, I was just thinking that earlier today when a group of junior high kids were touring my residence hall and decided it'd be funny to press every button on the elevator.

Fortunately, I knew the override, but still, to think I was once like that just makes my blood run cold.

I agree, to an extent. I believe there really are a few people that are mature enough towards te tail end of high school, but then again, they are few and far between. It's so easy to think you are one, when you probably really aren't, as well. No one wants to believe they are suspect to anything they see happen to others.

Thank you. My friend has been going out with the same chick for 3 solid years. For a High School relationship, that is an insanly long time. But he is very religious...he doesnt even like porn...so I do believe that plays some factor in the longevity of the relationship.

I remember those day...They never lasted long even though the couple said shit like "We're going to go out forever" and shit like that and tehy ended up going out for like a week.

what really cheeses me is the fact that some people decide to have boyfriends/girlfriends just for the sake of having one.

I swear everyday i see this couple pass our table. hes got his arm around her and she looks like "get this ****** off of me"

and a friend of mine(sophmore) already has 5 ex's and is currently going out with the soon to be sixth

Honestly i would like to take a a baseball bat to some of these peoples heads. might knock some sense into them.

i guarantee that if i wanted to, i could have a girlfriend like that. but unlike some idiots i would like something solid and not just for the fun or popularity of it.
