Some of you are being complete morons. In the thread that some newb recently posted asking a sincere religious question, most of the members who responded made complete idiots of themselves. It shames me to see you people act this way. The question was not written stupidly with horrible grammar or anything, and it was a fairly simple thing to answer as far as finding it in a religious book. It made him ask some more questions and caused a little bit of discussion, but that was overshadowed by a great number of you guys being idiots.
And you're all being very hypocritical. A lot of you (particularly the athiests) complain about religious groups (particularly Christians) pushing their views on you and "oppressing your right to freedom of religion." Then I see this topic where people are like "oh that's all Christian stuff it's bullshit" and cracking jokes about other people's beliefs and trying to tell them that they are wrong for believing what they believe. And it's not like you have to believe in what the guy was saying to answer the question! I don't believe everything in the Bible, but I went straight to the Bible and found a quote that answered the guy's question.
But it just really angers me that you guys can be such hypocrits in that situation. You mock his religion and won't even try to help, but rather flame him and call him and his religion stupid. What would you do if somebody did that to you? If some Jehova's Witness knocked on your door, and when you answered the started yelling about how you're following Satan and how you're WRONG and they had a group of 20 friends behind them making cracks about you and your religion. Whether you were offended or cared or not, you cannot tell me that you wouldn't be really pissed off at them. So what makes you think it's cool or funny or nice to make fun of them for their religion?
Now I'm not trying to sound high and mighty or to say that I'm perfect and everybody should follow me, but I'll use myself as an example. I'm pretty much Christian, though I don't believe everything in it. If somebody brings up something about any other religion, a question or something, I would try and help them. Naturally I'd be better at answering Christianity-based questions because it's what I'm familiar with, but I would try my best to answer any other question. Hell, not too long ago I talked a whole bunch about Buddhism with somebody, I can't remember if it was on here or not, but we had a long discussion about it, and I'm not Buddhist, I just know the basics of it.
It's just like any other topic. If somebody brings up abortion, whether you support it or not, you should be able to calmly discuss it and say why you think it is or isn't right. That can play into religious views, too, and that may come up in discussion. You can't immediately throw out anything somebody says just because it's preceded with "Well, as a Christian, I object" or something like that. You can miss out on a lot of stuff by just blocking people out (or just flaming them immediately) like that.
And it's not just that recent topic. These boards have gotten worse and worse over time, and now it's just getting ridiculous. I understand that some questions are dumb, but you don't have to keep mocking the person that asks them. Just let the mods do their job and lock the topic. And speaking of mods, let's look at how Jewpin handled that particular situation:
Yes, he does mock the guy, but he also answers his (dumb) question and explains the situation. Why the topic wasn't locked here, I don't know, but the way Jewpin handled it was the right way. If you're going to make fun of someone, at least answer their question, too. All of you in that topic that just kept making fun of him, you guys go too far. Half the time I don't even click on those topics because I know it's just gonna be a bunch of flaming that, most of the time, isn't even funny.
And it goes beyond individual topics. You guys seem to target specific individuals for mocking. It's obvious that these people don't know how to handle the mockery, so you guys step it up a notch. It's just not nice. How many of you have ever been bullied and ganged up on before? It's not enjoyable at all. I KNOW that you guys know the difference between harmless mockery and repetitive abuse. I don't have specific examples right offhand but you should all recognize what I'm referring to.
You guys haven't always been like this, and I don't know why there's this sudden change into being asses, but I don't like it, and I KNOW I'm not the only one to notice.
