I'm never, not never going to be the Pope. And I don't care if he's the figurehead of the galaxy, I should still be able to exercise my right to free speech.

      It's all about the encyclicals.

They're essentially writeups of the Pope's theological interpretations, and they greatly influence Church thinking.

im not catholic so the pope means diddly squat to me. I made a joke whats the big deal that would
be like if you were offended if someone made fun of the leader of your country. Chardish i was wondering if you were one of those weird people who actually prays to the pope?

I'm not a lot of things, but I'm still respectful of their beliefs and traditions.

A spiritual leader is much different than a political leader. When someone mocks a spiritual leader, they mock the beliefs that leader represents - and the believers.

No, this would be known as worshiping a false idol. I do not know of anyone who does this. Anyone who does is, by Catholic doctrine, gravely mistaken.

Like the time when there was a Christmas thread, and they changed it to the holiday thread to prevent insulting anybody, and YOU changed it back to the Christmas thread?

I want people to start calling it "Christmas" instead of pretending it's some sort of dirty word and insisting on "the holidays."

If you're offended that people assume you celebrate a holiday that you don't, you need to lighten up. Period.

              Nice shot, Hans.

I remember that now. He was acting quite offensive. :P

That is a whole lot different than calling the Pope a nazi and a cannibal.

There's a Passover thread right now but you don't see me changing it to THE MIDDLE OF SPRING THREAD to avoid offending people who aren't Jewish. Same principle. The Christmas thread started out Christmas, why couldn't it stay that way?

Really, I think I should change the titles of all these threads to "Chardish Defends His Conservative Morality, pt. 1, 2, 3, etc..." :P

I don't want to really beat on something that happened 4 months ago, but...

Kenzya changed it to be "respectful of their beliefs and traditions". You changed it back, and really, a lot of people were insulted by that. Can you be respectful and insult a group of people at the same time? No, you can't.

Besides, I wasn't really referring to this thread, just saying that what you said was hypocritical.

Too late, you already have. Twice now.

It was changed to be politically correct. Why change a thread about Christmas into a thread about all holidays? This would be like (assume the TV forum didn't exist) me creating a thread about Family Guy, and it being changed into a thread about all animation (with the topic title and everything.) There was a Hannukah thread, too, but no one whined about that, or thought that it was disrespectful of people who weren't Jewish.

What happens, too often in this country, is that since Christians are the majority, we get trampled on all the time for "imposing our views on others" even when it's something as simple as celebrating one of our holidays. But other religions get a pass because it'd be politically incorrect to offend them. It's a huge double standard, and don't tell me you're not buying into it.

I'm not going to go into what your definition of "a lot of people" is. But I think "more than two" would be universally acceptable as the bare minimum to constitute "a lot". Name three, and link to their posts where they say they're insulted.

If you are offended that people celebrate a holiday you don't, that's a lot different than being offended when people insult your spiritual leader for "humor". I am not offended when people celebrate Hannukah, or Ramaddan, or what have you, and I'm not going to demand that those simply be referred to as "the holidays" to avoid making anyone feel left out.

Chardish, there were at least 4 Jewish people in that thread who were insulted. Unless we don't count, of course.

Not to mention that several Christians were surprised by your (absolutely unnecessary) move, as well. Surprised negatively.

Insulted that a Christmas thread should stay a Christmas thread?

You don't see me defacing the Passover thread (or the earlier Hannukah thread) by changing the topic name, insisting that it remain neutral, and claiming that it's not allowed to favor a particular religious holiday.

You still haven't named names, or linked to posts.

Fair, HansSky. People were offended. I still maintain that it's a lot more appropriate to be offended by people insulting your spiritual leader than to be offended that people are talking about about a holiday you don't celebrate.

I think we're getting really offtopic. But because I know people are going to accuse me of demagoguery if I declare this conversation over, you can make one last post on this issue before we move on.
