RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Proposition concerning FFDX.

I don't believe you can do it
I think a lot of people are thinking that right now. Although, there have been a lot of DDR games in Flash, so I wouldn't be too surprised if he did it all the way. It'll never be super good though (unless Synth adopts it and they all work on it together).
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

      Sup IIDX: http://www.cubedstudios.com/SupIIDX.avi

Just put that together in around 30 min for the hell of it. I used the code I wrote for R2B2 and changed it around a bit. It plays well...

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Proposition concerning FFDX.

Thank you. But like I said don't use spacebar please. Why? Because it's like triplets in Stepmania, some keyboards won't allow three notes on the arrows to be pressed down. While I can still do that, I can't hold down like.. three "letter" keys and the spacebar.

It'd also be much cooler if it mimiced (sp?) IIDX more than O2jam. So like having the turntable on the left or right, probably an option for either side. In that case you can use the shift keys and can configure either one to your liking.

Just thoughts. I kind of feel like an ass because this is only.. like a showing of (your) skill.

          Ugh falcon *huge sigh*

He is doing this on his own as his own project, he doesn't need synth's say if he is allowed to do it or not.
I meant if he was going to put it on ffr.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Proposition concerning FFDX.

I actually wanted to do this for a while, just to try it when the idea came up when I was talking to chardish. I had time to waste tonight so I decided to just try it...

Even though this wont be continued since I have other more important projects out there, I want to answer you thoughts. First off the keys are configurable (Obviously). Second of all, I made it look like O2Jam so I could read the notes for the video. Again that could be changed if I wanted to continue it.

Anyway it was just for fun and will never be played by anyone. I just wanted to prove it could be done (See previous posts by others) and also to do something I wanted to do ever since Chardish brought that up.

Well O2jam's notes are reconfigurable too, but if I make the middle key NOT spacebar.. Then it just goes on to be confusing.

Plus, I've been waiting for a POPULAR IIDX sim.. I don't want to see an O2Jam sim :P Heh

The three keys on each side + space thing is the setup most likely to register 7 keys at once. Your keyboard is beyond fucked up if it doesn't register that.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Proposition concerning FFDX.

Soccr, I don't really understand how you could do that and not want to give me the code to it. With just an example to base this from I could reconfig it and get it out in less than a year. If I knew C++, I could reconfigure Stepmania and get what I have planned out for that. SM is open source, why can't R2 be?

Yes, this sounds like I'm trying to weasel my way out of this. I sat down last night to begin the logical thinking of how I could do this project and came up with a few things.

                  1) It'll take me a good few months just to figure out how to get Flash to read in the *.SM file and perfectly calculate what arrows go where in correspondence with that file. Sure, I can make (and have made) the file with 6 notes, but getting it to calculate the BPM and change the scroll speed according to that, along with the dozens of other calculations are going to be nearly impossible for me.

                  2) Throw in another few months to get the other code for the game; the menus, the options, etc.

                  3) Add in the time it takes to figure in security features (IE, limiting hacked scores) and database functions.

                  4) Add in the time it takes to code a simfile editor. Remember, there isn't on in SM, so it has to be made with this.

Having sat down and thought about this for a while, I think it's safe to say that it's likely not going to happen until I am out of college with a much better understanding of Flash. Sorry to have gotten everybody's hopes up. I assumed I could use code from other sources and tweak it to function in the style I would have liked. Looks like Kenzya was right after all.

My apologies for all the time I have taken out of people's lives about this so far and for all the people who will be disappointed to hear this. Soccr, if you ever finish those other projects and want to take over for FFDX, be my guest.

GG FFDX - my recommendation is that you start small and work from there.

People hand-wrote DWIs for years before SM came out.

squeek, i think you're over complicating it a bit. You look at what FFR was like in the beginning...just don't look at the big picture. And I don't know flash at all (i know .vb, c#, C++, and some java...), but if it's at all like any of those, then the programming of the menus and such would take about 20 minutes, if that. And i'm sure there's plenty of open source code out there for databases...and i don't know about the simfile editor, or how tough that'd be...but you could release that later, if you could just put some songs in to start...i could probably write one in VB using DirectX ...anyways, just saying, i wouldn't get discouraged yet. and just tackle it piece by piece...sure it'll be tough, you don't think even synth and soccr ran into problems trying to create their games?

Well, R2 can't be open source because we want something good for this site only. We do not need many other simulators on other sites that are as good as it. I mean, have you ever seen a flash ddr sim as good as FFR or R2? I do not think so.

The only reason I touch flash anymore is to work on R2. Other then that I am building a Gameboy emulator in C++ and a PC 2D action game in C# with a friend of mine. I probably will never touch flash again in my life after R2...
