To paraphrase the first sentence of hi19's post:
If you make a big deal out of something, then others are more likely to give you the kind of negative attention which you're looking to avoid. If you don't make a big deal out of something, then others are less likely to notice anything.
In your case, as long as you don't wear a MLP backpack around school, then your peers probably won't know or remember that you're a fan of the show. Additionally, if you can show that you're not afraid of being judged, then you can stop giving people ammunition to try to hurt you.
