            Re: Best file ever?

I find Planet Karma very overrated, especially for present day when there have been so many recently released files that can top it and it's cosmic "glory". Comparing the file's structure and techniques to the file standards today, it really hasn't withstood the test of time. It was I suppose a ReVoLuTioNaRy simfile for its era, but really isn't anything special today.

Frankly, the people voting for Planet Karma are not only outdated with simfile packs, but are way too conceited to even appreciate the work that goes into present day files or just can't bring themselves to accept present day stepping trends. The latter, I find ironically funny because a lot of the present day trends and techniques are derived from previous era files but have been recycled and completely refined (such as the aforementioned "planetary king" itself and a lot of kil files). In actuality, there are a very limited number of stepping techniques that are completely original and haven't been done before today (e.g. wc's colour note association, kommi's ITG roll usage, my IOSYS vocal theory etc.)

All in all, I'm going to have to agree with moches' viewpoint (and part of what Kommi and Choof said). It's a good simfile, but really I don't see how it's -still- considered the best simfile to people. It just baffles me to no end but I suppose this makes it a good observational study for me.

              Re: Best file ever?

don't say planet karma is a bad file, because the file was really different at the time it came out and i'm pretty sure a lot of people over at odi said it was the best marathon file they ever played. it's still GOOD but its not as good as it was since everyone's opinion on a good file is different than it was then

in other news i never really played or liked staring at my spaceship, that's probably because i'm a ferrari driving bastard

but honestly i'm more on the side of the files like strangeprogram, emerald sword, etc for the same reasons other people have said in the thread: they're different and still played widely today after what 6 years?

also planet karma isn't a bad file, it's just a file that someone bothered to sit down and sync aka jimerax/yesssss. I personally don't find anything great about the steps themselves, even for its time : < GLoVE had already been doing fantastic rainbow solos far before this. I think people attribute god tier status to this file because it does have a sort of epic feeling to it, being a marathon file and 5 different movements etc.

i forgot about G-LOVE files because he was a baller and dunked good files all the time (universal mind and this dying soul are my favorite files from him), unlike mr stargroup aka kil groupy that made a file i liked every year

and i call my files works of art to follow the footsteps of my idol kil, brb masturbating to thermosphere
