ok folks, see if you can find a pattern:
10 straight cuts make a max. of 56 possible pieces.
add that into the equation.
12 should be a whole lot easier to figure out now, 61 is too low...

Also, I found a way to cut through a pizza 9 times and get 60 pieces instead of your 46.

Grey lines are cuts. I also used a cube to show a better visual of how it is cut. Yes, there are only nine cuts, you just have to think 3D. Each 10 signifies the number of pieces per horizontal layer. Note that you can make more vertical cuts than horizontal cuts and keep producing more slices.
