New Way of Doing FFR Rank

I know some people like the FFR Rank and others don't but here's what I think.

Right now the FFR Rank basically signifies who plays (or has played) the most and I think that it should be based on who plays the best. The best way to do this in my opinion would be to add up each player's best score on each song into one big total. I've put a decent amount of thought into this and these would be some good things about it.

- All types of skill would be tested because all songs go into the new rank
- Most Harder songs have more possible notes, and because of this are worth more points, so better players will be ranked higher
- It shouldn't require much code to implement because all the numbers are already there, and just have to be added together
- New songs coming out would make inactive players fall down the ranks and would keep the ranks exciting for all players

By no means do I want to remove the current FFR Rank, but I think that it should take a backseat to this rank.

I would love to hear what you guys might think of this and I would also like to hear your criticisms and suggestions, so we can make this something that the FFR Community can support and be proud of.

Average rank is better, and its already on everybody's profile.

The problems with this are that not all of the harder songs actually have more arrows, as arrow amount does not constitute difficulty.

The average rank just works better because it shows your skill in reference to other players. It also throws a loop in inactive players ranks because they wouldn't have a high rank on the song.

I agree with the note to difficulty thing, but I don't like level rank that much for a few reasons.

On some easier songs, a blackflag will give you a rank of around 3,000, even though it's a difference of only one note. With my system that one note won't have a huge impact on your overall score. The other thing I don't like is that your level rank average doesn't tell you what number you are out of everyone. For example, in the thread listing the top level ranks, there's only about 45 people with average level ranks under 100. This means that even if your level rank average is 90, you could really be the 40th best player on the site.

I like level rank average better than the current FFR Rank, but it definitely has some flaws.

i like this new idea a LOT. average rank is very deceptive, obviously, in many cases. someone like shash or baha probably has an average rank of 50 or 100 or something right now, and mine is 5, but that doesn't mean i'm the 5th best or they're 50th or 100th best. having a system where the total is added up makes crucial to keep playing FFR to stay a high rank BUT ALSO does NOT substantiate the absence of one score as does average rank (i.e. missing one week or 3 songs will skyrocket ur avg. rank but missing one score will only lower your score in comparison to another player near you by 1 or 2 million or so points)

edit: in response to above, tons of people have average ranks under 100. when i say tons, i mean a few dozen. and an even larger number than that is the number of people who POTENTIALLY could get under a 100 average rank but do not care to do so by AAA'ing easy offbeat songs. but average rank 90 definitely would not make you the 10th best player on the site. sprite and i are about 10th but we have avg. ranks of 5.xx to 6.xx

Yeah, so for example, player A has 100,000 on tttm, 200,000 on mario, and 1,000,000 on CIA would have 1,300,000 total, while a person with 110,000 on tttm, 180,000 on mario and 1,000,500 on CIA would have 1,290,500, and player A would be 'better'.

I like this idea too.

Your example would be correct smartdude1212, and with the number of songs in FFR, the rank would be a very good representation of who's better.

simple. take every score in your levelrank.php scores. add them all up. your total is your total score. list everyone by total score starting with whose total is highest.

also, i think it's better to punish inactive players by having their hypothetical "total score" be less than others by a few million points (which is a small portion of the total score) than to punish them by having 10,000 people play one song, raising their average rank tenfold (a substantial amount that makes everything seem to go haywire) the average rank thread is haywire because a small inactivity phase throws the rankings off immediately. i hope it would be easy to use the proposed system.

So if I mash on a really really hard song and make it all the way through I have more skill than if I AAA tttm?

Getting all the way through a hard song is a drastically different score than FCing said song, so someone who could AAA tttm should also be able to get a higher score on the hard song (and if not, is he/she really better???)

Not bad idea, but there are some down points..

You see, if someone if inactive, it can't be of lack of playing FFR, they could be on a vacation, sick, moving, etc, so when they get back on the FFR account and find they rank up to 30000 when it was 3000, they won't be very happy, and it will take a long time to get back there, and by then, everyone would of already had more points than anyone else and it would almost be unreachable. I don't really like this idea, nothing against you man, but I honestly and truly wouldn't like to see this happening.

Well then they could get it back down by playing more songs. I think this is a pretty good way of doing rank, and was actually how I thought it was done before I found out it was just based on grand total score.

Like someone mentioned earlier, your rank won't fall significantly just by missing a few new songs that come out, and it would be fairly easy to get back to your old rank after playing each song.

Example removed because it's too confusing the the numbers are way off for it too have any value.

I completely made up all of those numbers, so the accuracy of this example could be way off, but near the top of the ranks, there is probably going to be a couple million if not more separating people just because of the shear number of songs, so missing a few songs and coming back will allow you to get back to the rank you were at.

Those numbers are way off what they should be. Plus they're not divisible by 5. Also, if you missed like 10 songs, you'd start getting near the score of the people with around average scores on all songs, but had still played them all, and could drop a ton of ranks, but it would still not be that hard to get your rank back by playing more songs. I just thought of a way that might be better, of basing it off of each player's 200 best scores, or something like that, since I believe people should be judged by their better scores, not their worse ones, and this would eliminate most of the problem of not playing new songs. Or just make it a certain percentage of the songs, not just a set number like 200. Just an idea.
