Replace Simfile Area with Video Area

This idea came to me as I was reading Nima's requests. I would be willing to shut down the simfile area on FFR if everyone would like me to open an area where you can upload your videos. There would have to be a limit on the size but at least they would be reliable and without 1000 pop-up banners.

you mean shut down?

and, perhaps a different suggestion... although i'm not sure how it could be made fair. maybe keep some of the simfiles up for DL, but not all 1000+. maybe the 50-60 elite ones that everyone loves... some of the ones by Reach, Jello, Aperson, Linus, etc... and then lock it so no one else can upload simfiles to it, but then allow the video uploads.

i say this because i know some of those older files are really good, or not so good but classic (gabber) files, that can't be DLed from anywhere else. so getting rid of them completely would make them the dodo. or, it would further clutter the forums for requests for those files...

but, if i had to choose 1 or the other... i would rather have video section than a simfile section.

edit: if you decide that it would be a good idea to keep 50 or so files for download, i'd be willing to look through the db and pick out which songs are considered the top files

Well, Tass, think about this. The DB isn't even working. So, by taking them down, it wouyld make no difference; nobody could download them anyway. So there wouldn't be more requests on the forums.

Use some logic, son. :P

The database has been a bit screwed since I moved the site over. I will be trouble shooting it and if I can recover any sim's, I would probably be willing to have a special page for them. Would anyone like to make a list of sims to save?

I am partly for it but partly not. I think the simfile section should be kept because I like uploading my sims to there. On the other hand, a videa section does sound cool. I like both ideas. DO BOTH DO BOTH

Dude thats a tough decision, FFR simfile section was extremely useful to me when it was up... Maybe a half and half type deal could be made?

If we were to keep the simfile section, I would probably want someone to recode the php. Anyone know about who is willing to take on this task? The current package was modified and is not as clean as it should be.

i already volunteered to do that. it'll have to wait til the end of this week, maybe the start of next week to do, but i can do it in a day. very very busy this coming week.
