    NEW SIGNATURE STYLE:

EDIT: Here's an animated one [took so long </3]

    Who wants one?

Specify the pony you want [try to stick with either of the mane 6], and any other text that you would want on the siggy, etc.

i'll do these if i'm not lazy

    EDIT: bmah, you're so lucky.

When we get to Round 8 of the Tournament updates, I'll be releasing a list of people who are eligible for prizes from the Tournament, as well as stating what that prize is. For TC_Halogen and AlexDest though, since it's apparent that you both will be moving onto the finals, will have to wait until the tournament is over. ;s

I had not noticed much before, but why do the animated versions seem to have lower image quality?

For the still-images, you can save in lossless formats. For animated, your only choice is .gif which is a lossy format. Also if the animation itself (or at least where the animation was ripped from) was in a lossy format (and most are) then the small clip will be less image quality even if there were a lossless animated image format since saving something from lossy to lossless will retain the lossy artifacts.

With still images, you could have .svg which are vector graphics which are 100% perfect and remain 100% perfect upon resizing to any size. You could have .png which is lossless. You could save in .bmp which is lossless but offers no compression and results in huge filesizes.

With animated images you can save in .gif, which is lossy.

For video, lossy formats are much more common as well (.mpeg, .flv .mov all lossy. DVDs? ... Yep, also lossy)

Lossy means you lose image quality but it's usually to tradeoff to make a much smaller file. Lossless means you don't lose image quality.

The highest quality gifs only use a 256 color palette. This means that images with a broad range of colors converted into gif format will lose far more quality than an image with relatively few colors.

Unfortunately for chez-the-guy's image, he encompasses the entire color spectrum (minus gray-scale). If he wished to increase the overall quality (assuming that Rainbow Dash herself was in decent quality beforehand) the rainbow gradient would have to be most likely turned into a single color.

I'll start working on it! When I get on my computer that has my Photoshop, or when my Photoshop decides to stop crashing everytime it loads.

Team Indeed says we can host Team Pony files on their engine if most of Team Pony is okay with that. Just let qqwref know. He specifically told me he'd be okay with it if most of the more active Team Pony members were okay with it.

You'd be able to add new charts and such. Voice your approval and let him know (wall post, PM, etc...) if you'd like to be able to play Team Pony files on the Indeed Engine.

Actually, gif uses lossless LZW compression. I forgot about gif having an 8-bit color palette; foxfire's explanation is correct. *facedesk* It has been a long time since I used gifs.

An alternative to gif is APNG. Although not universally supported (who uses IE anyway?) they will be rendered as a static PNG, showing the first image frame when rendered in browsers that do not support them. png images have a 24-bit palette (16777216 colors) for much higher quality. I bet you could even find a tool to edit which frame is the first so static rendering would show the best frame. Such a tool would also be useful for animated profile pictures (i.e. the frame that the FFR engine shows).

                              Here are compatibility tables APNG:

Here is a link to the Photoshop plugin download page:
APNG Assembler /2.6 files. Browse /2.6 files for APNG Assembler, Creates APNG animation from PNG/TGA image sequence.

And here is an editor I found to edit which frame is first (for Firefox, apparently. I imagine apngasm does the same thing, but I do not have Photoshop to test it)

We already have the majority of Team Pony charts on the community engine by Justin, but if you guys feel like putting them on the indeed engine, don't let me stop you, I'm okay with it. :>
