I'm all for changing the arrows skin, but I'd prefer Orbular to Notebar.
Also, I'm not a fan of having each column a different colour...I use the current colour system to judge when to hit. Maybe it's just me, but having a GH-like system forces me to memorize the charts to remember when to precisely hit, and that's not fun to me.
Wow, gj summing up exactly what I wanted to say. I fully support these opinions.

I don't recommend using it for advanced play. It works in GH because you have a relatively lenient window for a hit and there is no judgment.
For 6k, the only purpose it serves is to allow the user to get accustomed to the columns. The likelihood of someone getting insane scores with it is rather slim. I haven't seen any scores posted lately that use MacG's Circuits skin.
Why would you put that in your signature? You've lost your signature rights for a month. (You'll get them back on March 10th, 2012.)
silver maybe, something that's just distinguishable from white
you want to avoid the problem in stepmania where colour note solos are mostly green because everything below 48ths is coloured the same thing; the more you can distinguish different note intervals the better. in fact I wouldn't mind it if early yellows and late yellows were slightly different shades either, or early purples and late purples
actually another thing that bugs me about sm noteskins is how freaking dark the purple is by default (I remember I had to manually brighten my purples back when I used note, I forgot to change orbular in the same way when I swapped to it lol)

Would be extremely tolling on the eyes.

That would be needlessly confusing for me. The colouring system is as robust as it needs to be, and I don't see implementing that as being helpful in any way whatsoever.

Star, just open your mind a little. You're making the chance for great diversity on a game into a singular mode of play. There's where FFR loses its interest. You're stuck with their single noteskin, single form of menu style, single EVERYTHING. Don't be like FFR. You want something individual from everything else in the industry, let it be anything anyone chooses it to be. Allow for customization.
P.S. - Blast already has the fundamentals of the game sorted out. A few more major changes and the game will be exactly how it was envisioned. Now once those major changes occur, what's the problem with continuing the project to create a plethora of new noteskins, menu skins, and in game skins for combo/accuracy rating etc? Do the major stuff first yes, but then once that's worked out EXPAND the game, much like a tree. Starts out as a stalk with few leaves but once it survives the first few hard winters, it thrives, growing in all directions and creating many leaves individual from one another. Let those leaves be the people to your game.
also can 96ths be coloured differently from 192nds or is it too late for that tia
It's only too late to make a platformer game now.
I have build this engine using the Object Oriented Programming paradigm in ways that it makes me able to change about anything with much ease.
Although I don't see how coloring 96ths different from 192nds is gonna help you much... people seem to be able to read single colored stepfiles just fine.
