Is it really possible to be really good with only one hand?

I have always only played with one hand, and I am kind of stuck in a rut now. I can never seem to pass songs that are harder then very challenging. Is playing one-handed an extreme disadvantage or is it just a small thing? Will I have to change my playing technique if I wish to advance any further?

Sort of. The definition of AAA god and FC god are much different. You will NEVER be an AAA god with one hand. But you will be able to do some sick FCs.

Yes. It's a disadvantage, and we choose to play that way.

I think I'm the only pure one hander, thats very good, left. But more are welcome. It's getting lonely here.
Edit: Yay arsonists is with me!

Depends on how you want to progress, and when. It takes multiples of times longer to get good with one hand than it does with any other style. If you want to AAA stuff, change to spread.

Re: Is it really possible to be really good with only one hand?

I still play with one-hand... I can pass any song on FFR, and i have AAA'd 18 songs.
If that qualifies as good, then yes.

Edit: Yeah, i only play well with one-hand.
I learned spread for mashing the f*** out of silence, so i guess I'm "pure" to an extent...

I switched to spread a long time ago because I hated up-down anything.
that and staircases/rolls are way harder.

Up-down wasn't easy to get used to, in fact, I'm having problems with up-down once again thanks to my mac's adorably small arrow keys.

Re: Is it really possible to be really good with only one hand?

One-handed playing is more of a disadvantage if you want to FC or AAA, or "get good", or do anything faster. It simply takes more time to achieve the skill level. PA is also affected more by playing one-handed. Getting more technical, fast jumpstreams, rolls, and trills are generally much harder one-handed, especially ones that involve many up and down arrows adjacent to each other.

@Zageron: I believe DarkManticoreX2 plays one-handed, although I'm not sure if he's "pure" one-handed or not, and he's average rank something like 73. And... I'm not quite good (average rank 1630 or so), but I'm pure one-handed, never played anything else on this account.

Manti switched to spread a while ago. He's still probably the best 1-hander on the site though... and he's now pretty frickin good spread, at least in terms of AAAs.

Honestly I don't see why anyone would continue playing one handed if they know for a fact, that any other play style is better. Playing one handed because it's harder and more impressive to get nice scores is stupid too.

Walking is pretty easy but I should just use one leg for the rest of my life 'cause it's harder.

Actually, I consider myself good, just not amazing, I dont have many AAA's because I dont whore songs, I dont have many FC's because I play songs that are too hard for me, just for the music or because I like one part of the song, and the rest is better for spread.

My friend plays spread and wants me to switch to spread, I denied him..

                              Go for the FC!

                              Play spread = skill jump.
