i should be getting all perfects though because mario is perfectly synced and im a musician and i should be good at finding the beat.
I've been playing music since I was about 5 years old, and I still can't get perfect combos on some easy songs. I don't think finding the beat is the problem. I think the problem is the small timing window for perfects and variable human reaction time. It's hard to hit the small timing window in the first place (otherwise it wouldn't be considered perfect), and the more you have to do it, the harder it is because your reaction time can vary. That's part of the reason I suggested maybe trying to PC songs with fewer arrows -- fewer arrows = fewer chances to mess up and get goods instead of perfects.
Essentially retired now, but still ranked on the list of FFR's Top One Handers. One-Hander Skill Tokens unlocked: The V2 Token, The Patience Token, X_X1MissX_X, AAA v5, T.H.E.G.A.M.E.T.O.K.E.N Pseudo Skill Tokens unlocked: Numbers 21, 44, 33, 57, 26, 24, 47, 95
To AAA something, you must be beyond reacting to arrows coming up the screen. You need to anticipate them and be able to know the beat before the individual arrows reach the targets. I am not trying to say to memorize every song, but you need to be able to read groups of arrows rather than individual arrows.
You need to get better at FFR before you start AAAing stuff, even easy things.
On pad I can't AAA anything, but I can pass almost all the 11s on ITG. Timing is just different than speed. I suck at timing too, but I'm still ranked top 100 for a ton of songs on FFR...
I've AAA'd one song already, I was actually going for the AAA, it didn't happen by mere chance. I've been blackflaging everything, I know at some point I will get a second AAA.
IF Not Getting AAA's is a problem then heres what you do:
1. Open up Stepmania
2. change settings to judge lvl 6 and life difficulty 7 (dont try judge 7/justice ... just dont lol)
3. Play until you are proficient at passing with a good grade...
4. ????
5. Profit!!
AAA's: 24
Favorite Songs:
1)Lawn Wake IV
2)For FFR
3)Silence(880 combo currently >.<)
StepMania Config: <V86 C550 note

That's what I did. Trust me, anyone reading this that doens't believe it I'm telling you know it works. Don't fool yourself with AAA's on judge difficulty 1. I played on 6 for months with the settings on judge difficulty 1 and I ended up AAAAing (FMC) some of the songs from the CKMP1. I think this is how Nima got good too if that inspires any of you =P

Judge 4 is standard (anywhere below is considered "BS").
Or you can download Ridiculous timing and work on RA without the extra CBs/perfs/greats.

Agreed. It's like when you see LDURUDL (left, down, up, right, etc.) coming up, you don't really have to think "ok, I need to hit left, then up, etc." It's like a muscle memory thing. You'll be able to recognize arrow patterns quickly after so much experience.
Having played a good 18 months, I'll tell you that it gets a little irritating when I download a sim and there are no patterns.
Anyway, when you get a good amount of patterns down/memorized/muscle memory status, you may find yourself quickly seeing the pattern and knowing in your head what your fingers are going to push. Then you'll find that your eyes move the slightest bit down and you're looking at a pattern that's going to come up in about 1/2 a second. That's when you're improving.
One last thing. Work on your timing in general before going for a AAA. Try hitting the keys a little harder so you can hear yourself tapping to the rhythm of the song, I swear it will help a lot. You need to be able to consistently get marvelous or perfect before you should go for a AAA.
dance to the song... that kinda helps... erm what else... look at every arrow carefully and do not relax even if it is the last arrow or phrase cause that's where you stuff up
a tass moment... about ffr products

and the ABSOLUTE winner.... FFR thong with "Too Tight" across the front. the back would also work, but then it wouldn't be a thong.
Tension creates nervousness, nervousness causes one to screw up. Just stay relaxed, and don't think about the AAA. Even if you miss it, keep going and aim for the highest possible goal.
