Re: Username Changes
This would be the best option, similar to what facebook does. You set your permanent "URL", and change your Display Name freely.
regardless, the amount of cluttering, work, cataloging...
I also feel new-coming users don't need to be anymore confused in the forums than they are now, and doing this would bring even more questions to the table; not to mention the leader boards.
There are just a bit more downsides to this than I'd like to admit.
Only good thing coming from this is that I could add four "X's" to my name and an underscore.

Re: Username Changes
Correct, though that was for effect but used some css to pull off the affect.
As it stands currently, changing usernames is extremely difficult because the majority of the site long ago used usernames are the key and not user ids. Due to this, one would have to find where all the references to usernames throughout the site are, change them all over to userids, update all the usernames in the database to user userids as well, and then maybe be able to change them without breaking something that was overlooked.Last edited by PrawnSkunk; 01-31-2016, 07:31 PM.Comment

Re: Username Changes
Something that should be brought up is the fact that there are multiple places that use display names just fine, with little to no confusion, even in retrospect.
If somebody changes their name in such a way they're difficult to identify, they either:
a) lose their reputation within that context, which is, for most, a bad thing
b) are trying to hide a bad reputation. Contexts where this is significant should be using alternate methods of identification anyways.
I dunno, I just don't foresee this being a place where name scamming will be particularly prevalent, and if somebody is just changing their name to change their name, so be it.Originally posted by [11:38 PM] Hakulyteonly person who can legit tilt me is like YoshLOriginally posted by スンファンさん右に3回回らない限り間違います。Comment

Re: Username Changes
This is a non-issue if display names are implemented forum-wide and in-game, as a user ID and a username are still unique to a person. You wouldn't be changing that username, you'd be changing a "display name" which is much like your CSS play for your image. Just takes a little more back-end and some reworking on site features so that they pull Display Names instead of UsernamesCorrect, though that was for effect but used some css to pull off the affect.

Re: Username Changes
Prawnskunk is an alt account I use to dodge the blame of messing up the highscores without actually leaving, true fact.
In actual fact, I got him to fix a spelling mistake visible in the quotes where I wrote user twice.
Display names aren't a standard feature of vBulletin 3, and adding such feature would be a massive undertaking for both the site and forums.Comment
