Skill Tokens Official List?

Posted in Uncategorized on April 3rd, 2007327 Comments »

This will most likely be a heated debate. Should we make the FFR Skill Tokens available as a public list or should we continue to keep them wrapped in mystery? As the next few days approach, we have the capacity to add many new FFR Skill Token levels to FFR and I would like to know everyone’s opinion.

* Possible new skill token release tonight.

The REAL Song of the Week #2: Vertex BETA

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on April 2nd, 200756 Comments »

As most of you probably realized, Vertex BETA (now renamed as “Vertex BETA vrofl”) was an April Fools Day joke song, and we weren’t ever planning on having it stick around as a standard FFR file, no matter how many requests we got ;) However, while the impossible-to-pass (although Darkshark gets credit for, as far as I know, being the only player to actually reach the truly impossible part) file is gone, we’re still releasing a *real* Vertex BETA file today. Back on the normal scale of difficulty, it still ranks a very high 11/12 (For Masters Only), and while this is nothing compared to the first version, it’s still nothing to sneeze at. The file (also stepped by yours truly) consists of long 200 BPM 16th streams mostly, with some breaks for 8ths in places. It’s located in its proper spot in the Dance2 genre, very near the bottom.

For those of you who are wondering what will happen to Vertex BETA vrofl, don’t worry…it’s on vacation, but it’ll be back…for a certain skilled few of you, anyway.

Happy FFR’ing,

Shash

12th Token.. Maybe the easiest ever!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 1st, 2007662 Comments »

I was trying to think of something fun for you guys to do on an otherwise uneventful April 1st and I came up with this token. It adds a completely new twist in your way of thinking and may throw off some of the regular token users. We really appreciate you guys visiting our site and appreciate the fact that many of you call FFR your second home. Do something nice for your parents today and clean your rooms. That would freak them out on April Fools! Enjoy yourselves and don’t spend too much time indoors.

Oh yeah.. Lets get you guys started with this for token news… Click Here Never a boring moment here at FFR. :)

Songs of the Week, final week of March

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on March 31st, 2007133 Comments »

Our first Song of the Week is Let Mom Sleep, by Hideki Naganuma. It’s a relatively easy song (at least compared to the other Song of the Week), and it’s rated 7/12, or Difficult. The steps feature some very interesting rhythms, including a variety of colors of notes, from 4ths to 64ths. Also, see if you can find which other already existing FFR song takes a sample right out of this one! ;) This will be stepfile author Cyanite‘s first file on FFR, though he has many others in the queue. Let Mom Sleep is located in Funk and will stay there permanently, unlike some others in recent FFR history.

Out second Song of the Week is Vertex BETA by Silvia. Now, often people ask what the hardest song in FFR is, and I’m forced to answer “One Minute Waltz“, even though there are tons of people who can pass that song with no problems, and a couple people have even come close to getting a full combo on it. I got tired of this, so I stepped Vertex BETA for FFR to raise the bar a bit. It’s…uh…hard. REALLY hard. Remember how we got rid of the blank 13/12 difficulty, even on songs like Grand Gallop Chromatique and One Minute Waltz? Well, we wouldn’t rate this one a 13/12 either…it’d be more like a 17/12, or perhaps higher. I don’t know, since I can’t pass it. But anyway, our ratings only go up to 13, so that’s what it’s at. Song features…uh…lots and lots and lots and lots of arrows. Yeah. The song is located at the very top of the Dance2 genre. Good luck.

Happy FFR’ing,

Shash

Who is Tom Lehrer?

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on March 31st, 200755 Comments »

Tom Lehrer is currently a professor at UC-Santa Cruz, where he has taught for 35 years. He attended Harvard back in the mid 1940s, which is where he began writing polital satire comedy songs. Elements is one of his most popular songs, merely a list of all of the elements found on the Periodic Table, as named in the late 1940s… and set to the music of the Major General’s Song by Gilbert and Sullivan. You can read up more on Tom Lehrer here.

I bring this special release to FFR for a few reasons: 1st, we need comedy on FFR. William Hung just doesn’t cut it for me. I’ve tried contacting some other comedic songwriters that I am familiar with from my days of listening to “Kid’s Corner” on University of Pennsylvania’s radio station back in the early 90s (such as Trout Fishing in America or The Firm [famous for "Star Trekkin'"]), but to no avail. Mr. Lehrer was kind enough to give us permissio to use a few of his songs, Elements included (albiet 6 months after I initially requested permission).

2nd: I feel that it is my duty to bring some culture and history back to FFR. That is why I have given such a strong push towards adding certain Classical pieces. The history behind the songs of Tom Lehrer (or Alan Sherman) are crucial towards the history of the US, tackling various subject matters of the time. Not to mention, they were inspriations to any more modern satirist, such as Wierd Al.

3rd: I just love the song. Modern Major General is such a catchy song, and it isn’t any different with a whole bunch of Elements as the words instead.

So, I bring you Tom Lehrer’s Elements. Located in Misc (upper left of Page 1 for the time being). Steps are by jimerax and are fairly straightforward. Non-static BPM, but fairly constant between 115-121. All 16th notes with a few jumps thrown in. high 3 or low 3.5.

Also, I have 1 other quite amusing Tom Lehrer song that I am looking for someone to step. It is called “Lobachevsky”.

Enjoy,

Tasselfoot & Fight Fiercely, Harvard!

New Genre Added to FFR! Skill Tokens

Posted in Uncategorized on March 28th, 2007283 Comments »

You begged, you pleaded, you sent candy and wouldn’t stop calling. Yes, we have finally added skill tokens to FFR. Many thanks to all the beta test members (subscribers) who helped test the functionality and put up with me in the Subscriber Beta Test forum over the weekend.

What are skill tokens?

Skill tokens are a completely new class of tokens that all you to unlock new songs by hitting certain accomplishments on existing songs. For instance, lets say that an AAA on Trip to the moon was needed to unlock. If you did indeed AAA it, at the end of the game on the score screen, a token will appear letting you know that you have unlocked a new song. After that, you refresh and like magic, you have the token in your skill token genre.

For the next 1-2 hours Dance2 and Hip-Hop will be reversed because of some work we are doing. They will be fixed shortly.

Did I mention that 2 skill tokens are available right now? We may create an official list but for right now we will let you guys explore and find them.

Cheers,

Synthlight + Beta Team Forces GO!

Guess what? There will be even more Spinfiles up this week. Why? Well, I’m going on a little week vacation so I am going to do what I can to have three more spinfiles up by Friday as a token of my appreciation for your patience.

For now, our Spinfile of the Week was made by Yesssss, our contest runner-up and overall super cool guy.

Vospi – Etude Du Soleil Matin [Difficulty: 4]

Don’t forget to give Vospi and Yesssss both a thank-you for their hard work for the quality song and spinfile.

Love,
