Posted in Uncategorized on April 11th, 20071,461 Comments »

BWAHAHAHA! We are back with yet another FFR Spontaneous Contest! I promised this one is going to be easy and I will not dissapoint. It will NOT require a camera or special skills. You won’t need to involve your parents or food. For this spontaneous contest you will need to do only one thing, reply to this news story.

You heard me right, it’s just that easy! THE 1000th response to this news story will get our newest shirt delivered right to your door. It will be the very first shirt printed and I will sign this shirt myself with my horrible signature and deliver it to your door for absolutely no cost. You can respond as many times as you want in the news story (that should make it interesting). I only ask that you try to respond respond with real words. Lets make it something interesting to read.

So what are you waiting for!? No excuses! Get to responding! I attached a picture of these shirts for you below. The shirt contains the top 1000 players as of last week and has printing on both the front and back of the shirt. :)

Spontaneous Contest #567-22.1 “Summer Snow Plow” Are You Ready?

Posted in Uncategorized on April 11th, 200728 Comments »

The title says it all. Are You Ready? I sure hope so. There is only about an hour and a half until the contest starts. Prepare yourself, do a dance, say a prayer, meditate or whatever you do to prepare for these things. We know one thing for certain, there is always a winner 1 hour later at the end of the contest.

I have no idea what we will be doing for the contest tonight but I assure you it will be spontaneous and I assure you it will be easy.

See you at 7pm Central Time (8pm Eastern and 5pm Pacific).

Cheers,

Synthlight

At first I had second thoughts. The last contest we held was so utterly disturbing that I thought we all needed a break for atleast a week. Sure enough though, the urge to hold another FFR Spontaneous contest crept back into my head.

and now the ideas are brewing…

As Wario would say.. BWAHAHAHA!

We also have a new prize this time. I will be revealing the new T-Shirt design tomorrow night. The “FFR Spring 07′ Convention” shirts. The shirt will be the first of it’s kind and signed with my horrible signature in a permanent marker. :)

Tomorrow at 7pm Central watch this page for instructions.

See you then.

Songs of the Week, 1st week of April

Posted in Song of the Week on April 9th, 200736 Comments »

Hey, did you enjoy the special release songs this past week?
Aside from those songs, we have 3 more regular songs of the week for all you crazy eyed players.

SotW #1 of this week is Mercury Lamp.
Song is by Shiki – This is his 3rd song, we have popular and cool songs, Air, Sepia.
yea this one is cool as well.
Steps are by macgravel – Although it’s his 2nd simfile for FFR, he’s a veteran of making sims.
It has 16th short streams at 147 BPM, and mini-gallops with doubles.
Difficulty rating is 4/6 (Very Difficult). You can find this song in Dance 2 section.

SotW #2 is My When Clones I Am Out Many.
Song is by Shadow of the Beat – It’s his first song stepped for FFR, he has other some unique
songs in his site.
Steps are by hi19hi19 – recently we have his steps every week, it’s 18th song released for public.
Steps are straightforward, maybe kind for every player. Difficulty rating is high 2.5/6 (Standard).
This song is currently in Funk section.

SotW #3 is Shihen.. This song is a secret song and for those who think
My When Clones I Am Out Many is too easy. You need 35,000 credits to play this song.
Song is by DJ Sharpnel, collaboration of the slow melody with fast rhythms is nice.
Some people may have already known this song since it’s a poplular song for a Stepmania simfile.
Steps by regular FFR artist Rebirth0, and it’s his 23rd song released for public on FFR.
BPM is 198, a bit slower than BB Evolution or BB Revenge but still fast enough. Big streams at the ending are challenging. Difficulty Rating is 5/6 (Very Challenging).

Have fun with SotW,

JX

The Evolution of the Blood Rabbit Festival and its Revenge!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on April 8th, 200755 Comments »

Happy Easter everyone! Yay! Colored eggs and peeps galore! Anywho… pokelda & Cyanite, our resident holiday simfile specialists, have come up with a special file for Easter. DT Rabbit Blood Festival is an uppity file by DJ Sharpnel (Warning: NSFW). 1085 notes long, 170bpm, 2:37 in length. Nothing more than 7 note bursts of 16ths… rates either a high 3.5 or low-mid 4.0 in difficulty, IMO. I’ve placed it in the upper left of Dance2 for the time being, subject to change.

And the other part of the title… BB Evolution and BB Revenge were added as public songs earlier this week. I’ll copy and paste what Rebirth sent to me to use as the story for them:

Today we have a special simfile release. What’s the occasion? We put up this sim today in honor of my birthday. Now today isn’t my birthday. My birthday is January 5th, 1991. I had asked to have a simfile put into the game in honor of my birthday three months ago, but I was turned down. Once Tass put a simfile up for hi19hi19s birthday, he said he would make it up to me and release one for me.

BB Evolution by AKHT is the song we put in the game today. It’s located in the third row of the second page of Arcade. Be warned though: this simfile isn’t easy. It’s rated a 5.5/6 (For Masters Only) simfile becuase of its many 16th streams and 8th jumpstreams at 210 bpm. It even has some 12th streams and one or two small 24th streams. The song is 5:00 long, one of the longest songs in the game. And it’s fairly difficult the whole time.

BB Revenge, is another song I stepped for this special release. This too is made by AKHT. BB Evolution isn’t really the special simfile I had in store for my birthday release… the special song I want to release is BB Revenge. This song is a very high 5.5/6 (For Masters Only) song. It is so intense at times, that it can almost be called a Guru song (6/6 in difficulty). While it is a little bit slower than BB Evolution (which is 210 bpm (BB Revenge is 204)), it is MUCH harder to play and score well on. I stepped this song trying to go exactly to the electric guitar, so it actually feels like you’re playing the song when you play the simfile. It has tons of non index friendly streams, a lot of trills, some 24th stream madness and some 8th jumps. It will be an extremely hard AAA for anyone. Even a Full Combo on this song would be VERY impressive.

AKHT is a musical artist that plays a bunch of video game music on an electric guitar, as well as some other stuff. Some people might recognize these songs, because BB Evolution and BB Revenge are songs from Final Fantasy V (FF5).

Have fun with these simfiles,

Rebirth

And in other news… don’t forget about the convention coming up in Bowling Green, OH on April 14th. That is THIS COMING SATURDAY. I’ll be there. Synth will be there. Jason will be there. So if you’ve ever had desires to meet (or kill?) a major chunk of the FFR Admin and Development team, now is your chance.

Finally, subscriptions. I added another new file today… Divinity. But only subscribers can access it, currently. Wanna test out the new song? Wanna test other new songs? Want to be part of the beta team? Subscribe today! You can also subscribe in person at the convention this weekend if you don’t have access to a credit card.

Much love & Purple Peeps,
Tass

How Can I Help FFR Grow?

Posted in Uncategorized on April 5th, 200785 Comments »

As most of you know by now, we are having our first convention in less than 2 weeks! (April 14th). We are currently in a sort of planning phase for what we will bring with and what we will have setup. We have secured not just a table but an entire room at the convention. Room #106 to be exact. We will be bringing computers, projectors, DDR hardpads, Merchandise and basically anything we can stuff in our vans. We plan on doing MANY more of these conventions during the year and this convention will sort of be a learning experience for us. It will be something to help us gear up for all the conventions coming up. Actually, it would be fantastic if we could travel over the summer and do a few a month. :)

Anyway, we are trying to get buttons, shirts and all kinds of things printed for sale and giveaways at these conventions. But in a game that you can play 100% for free, our methods of earning any revenue for these types of things is seriously limited. This is why we came up with a section of FFR that allows you or anyone who supports FFR a spot on the beta team. The beta team typically has access to songs about 2-3 weeks early if not more, they have direct input to the game development, access to the active subscribers forum and many other things. It is the beta team that ultimately makes sure that songs are on sync and the functions work correctly.

In the last few weeks, the beta team helped test things like:

Arrow Scroll Rate Changes
Keymapping tests (we are getting there!)
Tokens
Skill Tokens
Auto-Fail Settings
Our newest Alpha Game: Nucleus

Basically, anything new or in development goes through them first.

Why am I pitching this so hard today? Because I am asking that if you ever thought about helping FFR out, now is the time. Anything you can do is very appreciated and would contribute directly to not only our development of this free game, but how many and what conferences we attend. Our goal always has been to give the people as much as we can for free. If you want it in technical terms, that equals about 222,450,376 hits per month and rising.

Please consider joining and helping us prepare for the convention by clicking on the FFR Subscribers Link Here.

Thank you all for your support. We are growing and it is thanks to everyone who supports and advertises FFR for us each day.

Cheers,

Synthlight, JasonKey & All of our generous Staff.
