New Song! CAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT!!!

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution, Song of the Week on December 29th, 200663 Comments »

So, I started a new job about 3 weeks ago. First 2 weeks were training for a few hours a day; real simple stuff. This week was the start of the REAL training, on site. Worked about 37 hours over the past 4 days, and expect that trend to continue next week, the week after, and every week after that (50+ hours for the non-holiday weeks). Not to mention working 12 hours today alone.

What did I want to do when I got home tonight? Play a new song in FFR. And what do you know… I have the ability to add a new song to FFR. So I’m doing it. BECAUSE I WANT TO! Enjoy.

This song has been in the queue forever. One of the 1st songs I received after taking over SotW duties, yet it hasn’t made it in… until now. Chaotic Sound is a song with a nice hard beat, by our very own RaVeRaVeR, who goes by DJ Chaos for his musical endeavors. Stepped by my main man Jimerax, you’ll be sure to love it. Not too difficult of a song… I’ve SDGed every time I’ve played it, although yet to AAA. You can find it in Dance, lower left hand corner.

In other news, you may have noticed that some of the difficulties were changed on certain levels. FINALLY, right? They now all reflect the difficulties that we, as a community, feel are accurate, as per this thread. Big thanks go to Shashakiro for fixing this…. cause I was too busy bring home the big bucks.

Don’t worry either… there will still be another song released on New Year’s Eve… but it won’t be SotY. Unfortunately, there has been a slight delay to SotY, which will be released as soon as it is finished.

Rockin’ In The New Year… 2 days early,

Tass

Day 10: Rottel-da-station by Sampling Masters CHANG

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on December 23rd, 200665 Comments »

While Synth and Jason work on getting that new server set up, and while Tass keeps on re-adding those scores that were deleted recently, we release our 10th Christmas song: Rottel-da-station by Sampling Masters CHANG.

To put it bluntly, this song is not for newbies in any way. Not only is it the hardest of our holiday songs this year, easily picking up a 5.5 rating on the 6-point scale, it’s also hidden from view unless you’ve managed to amass an extremely large number of FFR credits. That’s right, Rottel-da-station is our 24th secret song, and it requires a whopping 20,000 credits to play. Steps are by me and include long streams of 8ths filled with jumps, bursts of awkward 16th jumpstream or even just 16th jumps, and even a few 32nd bursts–not a song that will be FC’d by many, or AAA’d by anything short of a miracle run from an elite player. For those of you who meet the credit requirement: good luck. For the rest…keep playing and you’ll get there eventually ;)

Tomorrow we visit a genre that’s been untouched for quite a while. And of course, something quite special for Christmas day.

Happy jumpstreaming,

Shash

Day 8: January’s Song by The Fat’s Sabobah

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on December 20th, 200632 Comments »

Yes, today’s song is called January’s Song. We’re quite aware that it’s not January yet, but we’re putting this song out anyway in…anticipation. ;)

The song is by The Fat’s Sabobah, known on FFR as forum moderator and long-time FFR vet jewpinthethird. Last night’s song took a nosedive in difficulty from Day 6′s song, and we’ll be somewhat gradually climbing back up again in difficulty, as you can see from tonight’s song–it’s around a 3/3.5 on the 6-point scale, using some jump-step 8th patterns and 16th bursts, although at a rather low BPM. The steps are by jimerax, and they’re as fun to play as all of jimerax’s files are. :)

The song can be found in Misc. Why Misc again? Tass and I feel that Dance is getting rather long, and that it’s better to have a couple bigger genres then a lot of tiny genres and one gigantic, 10+ page genre.

Anyway, have fun with January’s Song.

Merry FFR’ing,

Shash

Day 7: See You Dance by Star Salzman

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on December 19th, 200632 Comments »

A mere 4 AAA’s on last night’s song. Told you it would be the toughest so far. But be warned…it’s definitely not the hardest of the 12 Christmas songs ;)

Today’s song is another song by Star Salzman, who also did the FFR Misc song Platypus. As Tass said yesterday, we’re taking a break from our steadily increasing difficulty to bring you a song that’s nearly as easy as Day 1′s song: See You Dance. Like Day 1′s relatively easy Christmas song, See You Dance is also stepped by dore, and is around a 2 on the 6-point scale, employing nothing harder than a scattered few 16ths and some longer 8th runs. It should be a fairly simple FC for almost anyone, and an easy AAA for any of the vets. You can find See You Dance in the top left corner of the Misc section.

(Tass has had a bit of a long day today, so I’m doing today’s news post instead, for anyone who’s curious).

Happy FFR’ing,

Shash

The 12 Songs of FFRmas! Day 1: CanBlaster – Come With Me

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution, Song of the Week on December 13th, 200627 Comments »

Welcome to the 12 Songs of FFRmas! I laid hints all over the forums that we’d be doing something EXTRA special for the holidays this year, and this is what it is. For the next 12 days, we’ll be releasing 1 new song per day. For the most part, they will be getting more difficult as the days go on, but it will not be a completely linear progression by any means.

Now what makes these files even MORE special is that almost all of them were slated for mass release along with 3rd Style. But, we figured it was a waste to let so many excellent songs sit and gather dust when they could be put to such awesome usage this festive season. Alas, this does not mean that 3rd Style is just around the corner, either. As Synth would say, 3rd Style is still expected to hit the shelves somewhere around April 31st.

Today, Thursday the 14th, we’re starting off with our easiest song of the 12 days: Come With Me by CanBlaster. The file is by dore, and is QUITE easy. I expect a few hundred FCs by the end of day today, and at least 20 or 30 AAAs. It can, as with all new Dance releases, be found in the lower left hand corner of page 1 of Dance.

In the forums, we will be keeping discussion of ALL 12 songs to ONE thread in FFR General, here. And brags of ALL 12 songs to ONE thread in Brag Board, here.

Happy Holidays,

Tasselfoot & the FFR Santa (who is a distant cousin of the Turkey God)

Off Topic But .. The Geminid Meteor Shower Tonight and Tomorrow

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on December 12th, 200631 Comments »

Yes, admittedly I am a geek. Not assuming that any of you are, BUT for those of you that may or may not find it interesting, the Geminid Meteor Shower will be peaking tonight and tomorrow night. Saw some last night .. nice fireballs those. This is not a massive shower, but generally has good size meteors that come out of this one and can really light things up.

Catch the shower early before the moon comes up and good luck, as some of you mid-westerners may miss out because of weather. Those of us on the east coast may too as a front moves in. Maximum activity for this shower can produce over 100 shower meteors per hour seen from rural locations.

For additional information have a look at amsmeteors.org for more Geminids information..

Have fun

Song of the Week: Torinouta (Noise Rave Remix)

This week’s Song of the Week is a DJ Sharpnel (Warning: Not Safe For Work material) remix of the song “Torinouta“. It has many 32nd and 64th mini-bursts, as well as sections full of 8th jumps and mini-16th trills. The steps are by Dore, and the song can be found in Dance, in the lower-left corner as always.

Also, the flashflashrevolution.com domain should be working again now (if you’re still on xqsite), although it might be a little longer before all the ISP’s direct to it again.

Happy FFR’ing,

Shashakiro

FFRSiggy aka FFR Banner and Editor

Posted in Flash Flash Revolution on December 1st, 200623 Comments »

Some of you may have already noticed.

For those that have not, we have created an early beta of a Signature Editor or Banner Editor. This allows you to create a customized banner for you to paste into your forum signatures, post to your blogs or myspace / facebook profiles.

We are working on adding to the available banner themes and increasing the amount of layouts available. Also we hope to add more variables to the displays to make it snazzier.

Take a look, let us know what you think and do give us suggestions regarding site banners or site buttons in the forum.

The Games We Played, Part 5

It’s been one hell of a week, not just for me, but for all of FFR. I’ve spent probably 10 hours just getting these files ready for FFR, but I got it all done, and you all have 5 new simfiles to play.

Tonight, we put TGWP part 5 in the game. The last part of the song. I was wrong when I said that part 3 was the longest part. Part 5 is just a few seconds longer. The other parts have been really nice and emotional, and this one is even more so. The ending blows me away…it’s almost too epic. You guys probably know what to expect, with the other simfiles.

The whole song is just over 17 minutes long, and has 2000 (Yes, two thousand) manually found bpm changes. What is manually found? I found all of the bpm changes using nothing but my ears. It took me two months from start to finish to make this file. Over 40 hours in the editor in stepmania, which is unheard of… Making a file like this, synced so nicely was so hard to do. I almost thought I would go insane when I was at the end. The last 40 seconds of the song was VERY hard to hear and sync, but as you can all see, I did it.

Why would I make such a file? I wanted to make a simfile that matched what I felt towards the girl I love. To do that, I would have to make the perfect simfile. With The Games We Played, I think I did so. There is no other simfile that is like this. She gave me the will to start and finish this simfile. It was an intense two months, but I finished it and the results are outstanding! She is the one person that gave me the ability to do this. Sadly, right now we’re having a little trouble with our relationship. I don’t know what will happen right now, if she’ll leave or if she’ll stay. All I can do now is hope for the best.

And with that, I give you all The Games We Played Part 5. The last part of the song.

Enjoy!

-Rebirth0

EDIT:

Well, tonight I found out the truth. Me and her were on a “break” from each other as of two weeks ago. I found out tonight that it wasn’t just a break, it was a complete break up. This sucks…really bad. I put so much time into perfecting TGWP because of her, and she’s probably gone. It almost makes me feel like I wasted my time.

But…I know I didn’t completely waste my time. I know that even if it was or wasn’t made for her, it’s still one of the best simfiles ever made if not the best. I accomplished one of my ultimate goals in this game: to make one of the best simfiles ever.

—————————————————————————

I also wanted to thank all of you guys for your amazing feedback regarding not just this song, but for all of the recent SotW’s AND for Shash’s fixing of many other songs. Originally, we planned to release only Part 1 of TGWP with MAYBE adding another part or 2 a few weeks or months down the road… but the response we saw from everyone made us realize that we needed to add in the entire song. And look where that has led us.

Thanks again guys,

Tasselfoot
