Song of the Week 2: Summer -Speedy Mix-
Well, it’s time to release our second Song of the Week…today’s song is a song many of you will know from its inclusion in “In the Groove 2″: Summer -Speedy Mix- by Smiley, one of many aliases of Kyle Ward. Steps are by everyone’s favorite FFR file artist and new MP mod Rebirth0, and are a great complement to the song, which is incredibly upbeat and happy-sounding. Difficulty is 4.5, song is 186 BPM and has quite a few 16ths, although it’s not quite as 8th-jack-intensive as Be Princess.
However…there’s a catch. See, a few days ago we reset all of the credit totals to match grandtotals, so we decided that it would be perfectly evil to release another song into the Secret section today. So yes, you’ll need…let’s see…25,000 credits on hand to play Summer.
Have fun with the new song if you’ve managed to accumulate that many credits…and play more if you haven’t 
Remember, we’re eventually going to have Secret songs up to 100,000 credits, so keep on playing if you want to have everything unlocked.

I talked to Kyle Ward myself, and got permission for every single one of his songs.
Guys, Shash isn’t being an ass by making more secret songs. We’ve been planning this for a long time. We’re planning on adding at least another 11 secret songs, requiring 30,000 – 100,000 credits to play.

Everyone’s favorite stepfile artist? ….rebirth’s my second least favorite, only hyrogashi’s worse.
Having said that, this stepfile was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the play (even though I didn’t finish the level).

Guys chill, there’s PLENTY of other songs to play, and having all these secret songs is a nice way to reward those who take their time to play the game. It’s really not that hard to get 25k credits. Plus, unless a glitch is fixed, that’s all the credit’s that you’ll need to play all the songs on that page!

what i don’t get is why make such an easy song for 25 thousand credits. by the time people have 25000 you would think they had to be more skilled. i was hoping it would be way harder. but its not a bad file its good just i was hoping for a wee bit more difficult.

The news item itself admits that this action was “perfectly evil”, so I’m pretty sure this was done intentionally to annoy people, especially those who lost credits in the adjustment.
As for the ease of getting credits, that depends on how good you are. If I focus on my higher scoring songs, I can probably get 10-15 credits on an average game. So I need about 800 games or so in order to reach 25k credits. That’s not what I would call “really not that hard”. Anyone who has an easy time getting credits is free to send their unneeded extra credits my way.

No, it works. I was trying to keep the post short by omitting some details/steps. Right now, I have about 17000 credits now. To reach 25000, I need 25000-17000 = 8000 more. If I get 10 credits/game, 8000 credits / 10 credits/game = 800 games. The actual result may be a bit lower (higher) if I average a bit more (less), but as an estimate, 800 games should be about right. As for the final sentence, that emoticon was supposed to be sticking out its tongue; it looks like it’s smiling though.

I was originally responding to Rebirth0 who said in #37 that “Shash isn’t being an ass”. I quoted the original post about this action being “perfectly evil” to show that the this was done intentionally, knowing it would piss people off. Therefore, I believe Rebirth0′s statement is incorrect.
Yes, I am a bit upset at losing credits that were given to me. I think it’s reasonable to be upset when something’s taken away from you against your will. And in this case, someone else’s generosity is being punished, which doesn’t seem right to me. However, I was not “ragging on the staff”. I was simply providing a counterpoint to Rebirth0′s post.

Ok, think of it this way. If you can’t get the credits for these songs, wait for 3rd Style. When 3rd style comes, most likely EVERYBODY’s credits will be completely wiped. That means something will have to be done to the secret songs, and they’ll probably make those able to be played by everyone just like the songs in all of the other genres (excluding Purchased).
If that’s what’s going to happen, the people that didn’t get to play these songs now, will have more brand new songs to play for themselves when 3rd style comes out.

And blindreper, it goes up by 5 thousand because that’s a nice even number. If they made it less, like 2500, then the pros who actually get a lot of points would get bored of the Secret songs way too fast.
Also, yeah … if you can only get 10 points a game, then you might as well disregard this announcement as you’re not going to get 25,000 anytime soon. I average 15 per game, and sometimes I average 20-25 points, and there’s those super long songs that I get 30-40 points. Even with so many points, it’s still nowhere near enough … hah.

Like I’ve said before. The whole idea of “working” for something should NOT be implied for ffr. I don’t like it in ddr at all. I’d rather have cheat codes and get all the songs right away so I can play everything and actually have fun. I don’t want to have to work for my songs. Ridiculous.
Ffr is not about work. If it is, then why don’t we make it so that it takes 500 hours to get one song, hm? Oh, and make all the songs boring stepfiles and EVERY SONG is a secret song except one song which is super easy and boring. Perfect way to make everything a work-a-holic game.

lets see… 185+ songs in FFR… about 15 of them require even 1000 credits to play. that leaves 170 songs that require 1000 or less to play (minus purchased, so 158). STILL, that is ~160 songs you can access with ONLY 1000 credits. you can get that easily with 10 credits per song in 100 songs. figure 2 minutes per song… 200 minutes. which is 3 1/3 hours.
THREE AND 1/3 HOURS AND YOU CAN ACCESS 160/185 SONGS. Heaven forbid you actually get rewarded for playing the game by having those other 25 songs take TIME and EFFORT to access.
So you know… only 300 people have 25k credits. As of now, only 21 have 100k credits.
We purposely released this song right after we took away the credits.
1. we wanted to get to the 3rd page of secret
2. we wanted to REWARD those 300 people who legit have 25k+ credits
3. we wanted to punish those who HAD 25k+ credits but no longer do because either they cheated to get them or were given them by people who cheated

The FFR Staff isn’t punishing anyone.
They’re rewarding those who have shown that they have the capabilities of being dedicated.
If you’re going to complain about a reward for those who are dedicated, then you might as well complain about people who get attention because they’re good at any number of things. You might as well complain about the Olympics. “Omg, I can’t believe they’re on TV and I’m not. yes i agree. but the ffr staff is taunting us to play more by seting the bar very high, i think. you spend thousands of hours doing a sport, you get to go to the olympics and be on tv, good for you. you spend thousands of hours accumilating credits, you get to play secret songs. now that comaprison sounds to me like that person should be spending thier time doing something more productive than trying to get a secret song on ffr. my point is, im an average player, id like to play all the songs without wasting my life away.

If you don’t want to “waste” your life away, then don’t pay attention to the announcements that pertain to Secret songs.
Like you said, if you’re an average player, you’re not going to get enough points to have 25k, so just don’t worry about it. It’s ONE song. Calm down, and go play the other 150+ songs out there.

I bet just about all the secret songs you can find in the simfile db…I found this new one in there I know that…All it takes is some skill to make stepfiles and a place to get the song and you can just make the song on stepmania and play it there…

I don’t mind having to work hard to get some of these songs, only if they were worth it. What is so special about Summer that is worth 25k? I doubt that the 300 that have the credits (me included) won’t have much of a hard time at least FCing this soon. Shouldn’t these songs be a little more challenging to FC and for the elites AAA, like Strangeprogram and Rottel? Whatever that 100k song turns out to be, if it’s a Mario level song (Beginners only) I’m gonna have to kill someone. XP

But I just went from 3500 credits to 4500 from the time that this announcement was posted … it’s not that hard to get credits guys. Just keep working at it, and you’ll realize how much more worth it it is.
Think about it like this. I don’t care if you’re an average player or below. If you do anything, it’s nice to be the elite in doing that, right? Well, either be satisfied with being an average player with average credit count, or work hard to become an elite and be able to play the songs that get released. It’s not much of an elite group if it’s easy to get there, right?

Only thing is, I believe Stepmania uses a way different engine than FFR does, of course. You’ll have to be careful if you want to get Perfects/Marvelous … the “feel” is different.

how much you wanna bet there will still be people whining even after xception’s post? i bet lots. but then since its been brought to my attention that im actually not making fun of whiners enough im gonna do it so more. take that whining babies! lololol. i feel like a child. in regards to something other then credits i think the file is cool. its got a hoppy feeling to it i would say. reminds me of the be princess steps only a little easier. good job rebirth0.

Yeah its easier to get perfects on flashflashrevolution than to get marvelouses on stepmania, however, you can change that in options, just go to judging difficulty. Dont do this if you’re playing stepmania online though, its against the rules.

Max Forever is a song thats not hard at all and has a lot of steps = easier to get more credits each play. This might help the whiners, in secrets as well.

in the future the secret song releases will be in ADDITION TO, as opposed to in place of, one of the SotW choices.
aka, the next time we release a secret song:
a. it won’t be announced on the main page
b. there will still be 2 songs that are free to play
c. 3 songs will be released that week
d. so if you have over 30k credits, make sure to check page 3 of secret every week… never know when that next secret song will randomly appear.

The idea of having the secret song “secret” to the public doesn’t seem very fun at all. I liked the fact that you posted up the name of it, since we can actually expect what it really might be (this one came from ITG, so it’s familiar). I don’t see why this is necessary to completely keep things so private when everyone is getting a kick of knowing it. There are plenty of complainers out there, yet how many actually voiced out? 131 minus some. Okay, there’s like what, 1,000,000 registered members? Leave everything alone, because people should know better than to complain when they should actually be grateful about having 150+ songs already available. Even knowing the secret song’s name is enough to be grateful about; the simfiles are bound to have it in there.
The thing about knowing what the song is and when it comes out, is the motivation it brings to continue playing FFR. How come there are SO many devoted members still here playing as we speak? Part of the reason is the secret songs. Something in our lives that we have clinged to FFR says, “Hey, don’t you wanna play anymore?” All of the players who get this message get it because they aren’t satisfied with playing FFR; there’s something missing.
I’ve said plenty. I’m pretty sure no one will read it except the few who are kinda late in this. But, there is a voice out there, saying, “don’t do that, Tass!” I still have 2700 creds after three years. I’m slow. I guess I need some motivation myself.
