I just watched all 24 episodes for the first time (subbed of course), and I don't get it. Like, the last 4 episodes just kind of happen. Can somebody tell me if I missed something?

Watch the ending two episodes more than once, and then watch the remake.
It still doesn't make any sense, but I'm not sure if it is supposed to. :P

This series seems to me like the basis for Psalms of Planets Eureka seveN obviously.

Rei - vs.

Plus the fact that the mecha's were biomechanical in both series.

I still like Eureka seveN more though <3.

I hear they did a movie that explains things a little more, but it was tough on my end only catching some episodes on Adult Swim. Try checking that out, but even with that, it's supposed to be open like that; by not giving you the explicit answers, it requires you to think about it a lot more.

I'm waiting for the series on Blu-ray before I'll drop money on a set though. I really wish they'd get a move on and shove the quality anime onto Blu-ray... if any anime deserves to get a HD release, this is certainly among them. Oh, and I hear the current "definitive" DVD release doesn't include the films due to licensing issues. I hope that can be worked out. Kind of absurd to think that Gainax would let two competing companies get the distribution rights to the two pieces.

ps eureka seven is a LOT different, and if you think that they're similar, you really missed the point. It's not just the mecha that make these two series.

This is one of my favorite animes. the last 2 episodes are incredibly stupid though. You have to watch the movie "the end of evangelion instead"

It is a remake of episodes 25 and 26, because they were so stupid.

The graphics are so much better.

480i is still 480i no matter how you slice it. They can remaster it to hell and back, going frame by frame to repair film-damage/remove dirt, but it's still going to be a low resolution interlaced display.

Blu-ray has yet to see real anime love. No Spirited Away, no Kiki's Delivery Service, no Howl's Moving Castle, no Princess Mononoke. Those are all the big ticket items, I would think, and still nothing from Disney about it as far as I know. Maybe they don't think the market is ready for it yet...? Instead, we get a bunch of stuff from Funimation (read: DBZ) and a promise of Akira coming in February. Not good enough.

ps no **** you i am not buying anime on bd imported from japan and yes i know its the same region get off my ass i want american releases on this stuff so that i can watch it dubbed if i so choose

I for one loved the anime series mostly for the confusing philosophical and religious contexts; It leaves so much room for self interpretation.

And I, as many others have already said, suggest you find and watch The End Of Evangelion if you've not done so already.

I'm not complaining that they dont make sense. Im stating my opinion that they are just dumb.

The writer received death threats to remake them. Then they did the movie "the end of evangelion"
