    Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion

The last few episodes were terrible mixes of bizarre biblical symbolism turned literal mixed with existential musings. The End of Evangelion was even worse and completely strayed away from the feel of the series.

I get what happens, but it's still irritating. It's even more irritating that they have all these undeveloped storylines and things and don't resolve them at all. I understand that a story's merit shouldn't necessarily be judged by whether it's packaged neatly or not, but it leaves the one watching very frustrated.

When watching it, ignore the metaphysical and philosophical aspects of the show -the nature of the angels, AT fields, Evangelion bodies, etc.

I used to be so confused by this show because of all the religious references and philosophical implications of the ending.

Among many things, this show helped teach me not to get caught up in things which don't really matter.

What you have left over are these literary themes which are very relevant to adolescence and a coming of age story, as well as self-actualization and values.

And yes, this show is very easy to interpret in many different ways. This was obviously intentional. It is this way because of the religious allusions, unexplained devices (evangelions for example) et al.

I've found that the more I've come to know myself as a man, the deeper this show resonates with me.

I'm inclined to think it takes a certain degree of experience with abstract thinking and ""anti-analysis" analysis" to understand what's going on beneath this show's surface. But don't let that stop you.

I'm waiting for the series on Blu-ray before I'll drop money on a set though. I really wish they'd get a move on and shove the quality anime onto Blu-ray... if any anime deserves to get a HD release, this is certainly among them. Oh, and I hear the current "definitive" DVD release doesn't include the films due to licensing issues. I hope that can be worked out. Kind of absurd to think that Gainax would let two competing companies get the distribution rights to the two pieces.

ps eureka seven is a LOT different, and if you think that they're similar, you really missed the point. It's not just the mecha that make these two series.
Eureka seven had a very very different plot indeed, but thats not the point of this thread, so I'l skip that...

There was a movie and it does explain, but if you seriously want to get the point watch the whole series from start to finish without stopping, then the movie...

There was a point I'm assuming, but it was over my head...
=__=' My sig was 22 pixels too tall, so this is here instead...

Oh, and courtesy of MrESqeek's anime resource thread:

Understanding Evangelion Editor's Note: This article was not possible without a number of spoilers, we don't feel that the spoilers a big enough to ruin...

VERY detailed analysis which goes into the character's varying issues of ego, loneliness/purpose, etc.

            Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion

Coincidentally, I read volume 4 of the manga today at the library and proceeded to watch Rebuild.

That being said, I'm not planning to completely watch the anime or even read the manga. I'll see the entire story (or at least a prettier retelling) through the rebuild movies. (I'll be done in 2012 probably.)

In any case, from what I've seen, it's pretty good.

P.S. I recall this series having striking similarities with another mecha series. Not Eureka Seven.

Do you know when the next rebuild movie's coming out?
Note: I'm not good with writing or speaking my thoughts/ideas, what i have written makes perfect sense to me but to you im not so sure. I apologise in advance.

It sounds like love is an amazing feeling. I guess its like dinosaurs, they sound amazing but I'm never gonna see one.

The new versions are much better. A lot more tolerable. I still think it's over rated.

I could not stand that little whinny bitch.
