The last few episodes were terrible mixes of bizarre biblical symbolism turned literal mixed with existential musings. The End of Evangelion was even worse and completely strayed away from the feel of the series.
I get what happens, but it's still irritating. It's even more irritating that they have all these undeveloped storylines and things and don't resolve them at all. I understand that a story's merit shouldn't necessarily be judged by whether it's packaged neatly or not, but it leaves the one watching very frustrated.
