Because when you pay for a subscription via paypal, you are sent back to your original vendor page (FFR's store page) where it retains your logon, and the system knows which account to attach the subscription to (yours, the one that made the payment)

When you pay for a subscription for someone else, the system has no way to know who you are subscribing simply by paypal's transfer process, so the subscription has to be done manually, based on the account name you provided in the store form.

It defiantly dosn't help run the site, there is no possbile point what so ever. Everyone who is a subscriber is an idiot for subscribing if it dosn't have a huge advantage over normal users. Subscribing is all about maximum gain for the money put in.
