The BEST gaming computer? Help needed.

Christmas is coming up soon, and I'm pissed of at my pissy computers right now. I'm not only pissed off at that, I'm pissed off at Vista.

On an XP, I have gotten 7 goods on Brain of the Moon on my 3rd try, and switching to this Vista 4 days later, I get 103 goods, 3 averages, 1 miss, 1 boo. Coincidence? I believe not. I blame lag and skippy frames.

So... I have come today to ask what is THE BEST computer for FFR and/or gaming. I've heard Mac is an "FFR god" but I've heard Alienware is the top-of-the-line computer for gaming. Any suggestions to fix the lag problems I am getting with FFR and maybe have some good performance for gaming?

(If you do have an idea, please describe how much RAM, operating system, etc etc because just saying a brand doesn't get me far)

    Thank you for your help.

A computer you make yourself that runs on XP or linux. Mine is gonna be running XP with 2g of ram, 2.66ghz processor, etc... (Especially a 640mb video card XD)

The operating system is not the major factor (although vista does kinda suck for everything atm), so much as the hardware statistics. If you have a 2ghz+ processor paired with 512mb of ram (pretty low standards), FFR should run fairly lag-free in low-qual.

Use the browser Opera for FFR, it supposedly runs flash better on Vista than Firefox or IE.

And actual gaming versus FFR are on pretty opposite sides of the spectrum. FFR isn't exactly the most resource intensive game in the world.

If you're wanting a gaming computer, why on Earth did you mention a Mac. And with Alienware, you're paying a lot for the name.

If all you're wanting to do is get rid of the lag on FFR, get Opera. There's no need to get a new computer. But if you're still considering it, I'd hold out on Vista until SP1 in January.

This is pissing me off...it's buggy but it doesn't suck because it lags your computer. As OS's advance they require better computers...don't have a good enough computer get a lower grade OS. However I do agree it's buggy because MS basically uses customers as beta testers until SP1 comes out. Yes I know your computer is pretty good right now but Vista uses tons of resources and was made with the intention that it will last quite a few years before they make another OS.
Lesson: Don't buy a Brand New OS especially if it's windows!

Also if you spending $1500+ get an Alienwere. If your under that...it doesn't really matter but Dell is pretty good with it's awesome warranties and customer service.

Opera does run Flash better than IE and Firefox. Consider that.

Alienware is only good for their looks. People buy it based on the name, but it really isn't that great. There are literally dozens of other custom computer manufacturers cheaper and better than Alienware.

Fido: Vista runs perfectly fine under a dual core, 2 gigs of RAM, and a 256 MB vid card.

Also try the latest build of Firefox 3. I've heard that runs FFR better too.

Is your 2.8 GHz processor a dual core or a single core?

I'm just assuming that was the problem...I'm not quite sure on the numbers it takes for it to run well as everyone at school who also has a laptop bashes mine with 1.5G or ram and 1.6GHz CPU but it takes about 7 minutes for them to turn on their computer and get to their desktop as it takes me 20 seconds...and they have SOOO much pr0n on their computer and I'm assuming they have a ****load of spywere...

If it's a Gateway I assume that it's integrated graphics, but I have no idea if that would effect Flash performance.

Still, try the latest Firefox 3 Alpha build.

From what I hear, these are pretty good.

Edit: From what I hear, CyberPower is incredibly cheap, but the systems are usually Dead on Arrival, among other problems.
