How to learn fast songs?

what is the best way to learn the very fast songs? is there some way to view the stepfile before I play it so I can learn the different key patterns. I can't seem to follow it as is

start with easy stuff, move your way up. there's no way to be instantly good at anything.

I understand i'm not going to magically learn it. I'm just asking HOW you learn a song when the keys are moving so quickly that you can't accurately figure out the patterns

Just keep playing the easy songs until you feel you have those mastered, then keep moving up to the harder ones piece by piece, try not to rush things, you'll get better, it just takes time and patience.

You will quickly learn to spot patterns as they scroll.

What I noticed is that you stop seeing single arrows, and start seeing batches of arrows, usually in 3s and 4s.

So where you now see
right,
up,
down,
left.

You'll start to see
"A right/up/down/left chain" and your fingers will just know what one of those is and do it.

yeah, i have been playing stepmania/ddr for a while so I can read most patterns fine. But trying to play all these really fast songs, i can't even recognize any patterns cause it's so fast! but i'll keep at it

like devonin said, just keep practicing and after a while ur fingers will keep up better then ur eyes will

i combo things my eyes cant keep up with just because my fingers have gotten used to the patterns

And that's the most uncanny thing of all. Your eyes unfocus and you're like "Ack! panic panic" and then you're through the pattern and you still have your combo. It's a strange feeling.

Best way is using the four-finger technic where you have your index finger of your right hand on the down key and your middle finger of your right hand on the right key, and have you index finger of you left hand on the up key and have your middle finger of your left hand on the right key, i've gotten so use to this technic I combo stuff I don't even see. Your fingers eventually adjust to hitting certain keys and you start to progress. I've been playing only maybe 3 weeks all together and have progressed a lot faster than the friends I play with. Practice makes perfect, do the skill challenges and just slowly move up from there.

While many of the best players on FFR use spread, I'd still be leery of just flat out saying "Its the best way" Everyone plays differently and no one technique is going to be universally good for everyone.

this is what i learned to do:

first off i used to be a drummer so i had to memorize things asap when we got the music so i used this memorizing thing to my advantage, i would look at say...10 arrows on the screen and i would quickly memorize them to a certain degree and then i would just kno when to hit the keys, its weird but it works for me

let me explain it a diff. way, i dont really look at the top of the screen where the arrows pass, i look at the bottom and see the arrows and then just memorize when i need to hit them all the while paying attention to the new arrows scrolling up

That's what I kinda do, except my eyes change from current "need-to-hit" arrows to the middle of the screen... kinda.

My 2 cents is that the good songs have steps on the beat.

Vague, but...hmmm. If you hear, "DAH DAH DAH DAH DAH", you can bet that the steps will be, "DAH DAH DAH DAH DAH", Know what I mean?

pick a song that's not completely out of your league but it's hard enough that you make different mistakes. Keep practicing that song, that's what I do especially when I'm learning new patterns.
