...how effective is scrolling off half the screen? I've tried it before, and it nearly made the game unplayable. Does it really make a great increase in skill, or is it just a minor tweak?

Much easier just to get StepMania and use a Cmod.

For me it actually makes things easier, as there are less arrows on the screen so it's less confusing.

For me (I'd say I'm one of the best FFR players on the site) it makes all the difference.

A while ago, I tried CIA Rave with a non-shrinked screen and a shrinked screen.

Here were my results:

Without the shrink:



With the shrink:



So as you can see, for me it's huge. For some people it's not as much of a difference--it really depends on the player.

I quit FFR the minute I dl'd SM. So it really depends on the person, their current mood, and stuff like that. Every once in a while, I play FFR just for the "memories", then get pissed of because I can't make the arrows faster. Screenshrinking doesn't change my score very dramatically.
