*Firstly if you dont believe in evolution do not read this thread, just leave now...this thread is not for debating evolution so dont post anything of that sort*

ok, so now everyone reading this knows evolution does occur...now as life evolves further the species, generally, become more and more complex...from single celled organisms to now humans...so i ask as humans continue to evolve what will the next new species be like...

actually humans have figured out how to create new species in the lab...we can actually add an extra chromosome to any species...for instance if this extra chromosome was placed in a human he/she would have 48 chromosomes (you normally have 46, but you must have pairs)...these chromosomes can actually survive meiosis and be passed to offspring...as you must know if you read this far, species are divided based on speciation (whether they can or cannot successfully breed)...since all dogs can breed they are the same species, since we cant breed with monkeys we are different species...and so if two 'humans' mate, one with 46 and the other with 48 chromosomes speciation cannot occur, therefore the two are actually two different species...i just threw that in because we actually can generate the 'next' species if we wanted too, but the moral issue of course gets in the way...

so what do you think the next species will be like...and i know that evolution takes thousands and millions of years, but the question sparked my curiosity and i thought maybe it would do the same for some of you

meh, no way of telling. I don't think a species willtranscent humans because we would get too afraid of them and wipe them out before they could be higher than us on the food chain. Maybe humans will just continue to devellop to use more and more of their brains. This evolutionary process would happen much quicker if only the smart people reproduced. (so do us a favor and don't moogy.) jk.

A higher, transient species will never naturally evolve and overtake humans, since we'll just evolve right along with them. I mean monkeys have had as much time to get smart as we have, and even if they started now, we'd have a few thousands years of a head start.

i think a new species that is more advanced than humans could be thought as mutants by the humans...it makes me wonder how other species handled the situation when an advanced being came into existance...for instance humans dominate the planet, but what would happen if suddenly they didnt...eventually the humans would be pushed to the back like the apes were right? i dont know, its all very interesting to me

I dunno about that "humans can create a new species just by artificially adding chromosomes to existing humans" thought. Especially since humans that were naturally born with extra chromosomes are labelled "retarded". Down Syndrome and other horrible diseases are caused by lacking/having extra chromosomes.

Regarding a superior species, though....
For the most part, I believe evolution (through genetic mutation) has occurred as adaptation to one's environment. In developed countries, we can artificially control our environment to be comfortable, so we don't need to change ourselves. We already attribute "superhuman" status to those who live in extreme environments which they cannot alter, such as Andes mountain dwellers, Eskimos, and the like, because of the features they have evolved. Evolutionary changes like that are small, and we're content to just label people with noticeably better features as freaks or products of their environments. Either they'll reproduce within their culture or die out, so the rest of us won't get their good genes, and we'll be as we always were, or their genes will slowly spread so that we all evolve rather equally. Therefore, we may all evolve without noticing, and the relative equality of that evolution won't scare us or anything.

However, if people are born who can fly and shoot lasers out of their eyes, I'll agree with alain that we'll wipe them out due to fear.

then how would we have ever evolved to be 'better' than monkeys...the most advanced species will prosper and this case wouldnt be any different

im aware of how evolution works and how people adapt to their envoronment, but im talking about a new species, youre talking about humans (all the same species)

evolved humans.. most likely they will use a higher percentage of thier brains therefor having a higher EQ and pwning us, in which wont exist because we have evolved into them so.

Unless a higher being from outter space comes i doubt anything else will ever own us.

as for the monkey thing. lets put this into perspective

number of monkeys on earth? probably less than 5 million.

number of humans? 6.5 billion. Another thing that we have an advantage on over every other organism except bugs. whos numbers make humans look like a grain of sand in a desert

Sorry for the confusion, but I don't see the evolution of anything besides humans being at all remarkable. Granted, the evolution of humans will only be remarkable in retrospect, and that's only if something cool happens to us like increased average intelligence due to increased brain efficiency.

As for the "new" species, I can't comprehend anything except a human++, so I'm not too helpful on that matter.

Ok really... in a movie called waking life, a man speaks of the new evolution telescoping smaller and smaller... 3 million years for homo erectus, 100,000 for sapien, and 10k for man as we know it... or something along those lines... This also speaks of eventually evolution getting down to a single lifespan, or generation... which leads to possibly a super evolving race... Ok too deep... Evolution is hypothisyzed as a balance of digital technology and controlled biology... or something... (AI and Cloning) to make some sort of perfection... or something kk

The reason our evolution seems to telescope like that is because smaller and smaller changes were being made. Evolution itself wasn't speeding up.

Also, dolphins are smarter than humans(i know it!). Did you know they have sex for pleasure, and know how to, *cough* pull out? Oh yea, apply the idea of contraception to dolphins, and suddenly they seem much smarter, right? we make them do tricks, and we eat them in our tuna-safe dolphin, heh.

I think that would be closer to "Up Syndrome".

Besides it would be a variation of human, humans being a species below the new organism. Look at the difference between Humans and Apes. I believe that they would not alter that much, because the rest of the chromosome are still Humans (if evolved) would have a fundamental change from apes, where this ProtoHuman would just be a clone with extra codings. For all we know, the body might just suppress the chromosome traits and so nothing would change, but the rest is still the same, so it isn't like the entire form of the ProtoHuman would be altered. The rest of the features are still human, because they didn't evolve with the extra chromosome.

This is why I used the term "Up Syndrome".

Still human, just altered.
