Both useless, and a failure.

Before you begin to flame, expressing to me "How I hate the military" I will forewarn you now, that you are incorrect, seeing as I plan to join the military (Navy) within the next year.

To stay on point, I'm obviously reffering to Katrina, and the governments failure to appear, or put forth any major effort in disaster relief, until a week and a half later, in which it's practically too late.

Look at it this way:

New Orleans is built on a flood plane, this is where the entire city rests. Given, this is not the first time this has happened, this is by far the worst. I can honestly stand here and say, that more people are going to, or already have died in this hurricane, than in 9/11. How exactly can such a huge fucking deal, be ignored?


I can say, that for such a large and major disaster America and it's government seem to be taking it lightly, seeing as the major issue in any other state isn't the large amounts of deaths that are occuring or the number of lost homes, and children who are being raped, no, none of that seems to be the most relevant, because what other states are MOST concerned about.. (drum roll).. GAS PRICES.

Now tell me, exactly what are the reasons that the National Guard is just now getting there? What is the reason that Bush is JUST NOW making the effort to enforce military action, prevent theives, save people and start the relief process? I'll tell you why... because he's an idiot. He's the president, and now that thousands of people have died, due to his lack of control, and orginization, all he can do is say "sorry".

Now, to sum up the rest of my anger... One of the major details of New Orleans, is that most of it's residents are DIRT POOR. Over 75 % of them do not own motor vehicles, yet we're arresting people who couldn't evacuate the city in time. HEY DUMBASS, it would've been nice if the government would've provided some emergency transportation to help old, handicap, and poor people leave. It probably would've saved a great deal of lives, and kept a lot of families together.

Keep in mind, that I respect the men and women of the National Guard, and Military that are out there doing what they were sent to do. It's not their fault in the least. However, I do believe, that if America, and it's government would pull it's ass together a lot more could've been done about this then there has been.

I'm thankful that assbag can't be re-elected, he is in fact, a horrible president.

Who is responsible? Who should be blamed? All of them. This is a colossal failure of our government to care for and protect its citizenry on every conceivable level. The heroes are the men and women on the scene doing their utmost to help those in need. Coast Guard rescue workers plucking people to safety and Red Cross workers feeding people from emergency kitchens are heroes. The man who commandeered a bus and got people out of New Orleans when the government was woefully impotent is a hero. The woman who smashed the glass on a convenience store to loot bottled water for fifteen kids who should have been absolutely inundated with supplies by then is a hero. The doctors and nurses hand-bagging ventilator patients 24 hours a day in dark hospitals are heroes. In the ineloquent but true words of the Mayor of New Orleans: "Don't tell me 40,000 people are coming here. They're not here. It's too doggone late. Now get off your asses and do something, and let's fix the biggest goddamn crisis in the history of this country." CNN was better prepared to deal with this disaster than FEMA was.

I am ashamed of my country's government in a universal way right now. Republicans, democrats, opportunists, it doesn't matter; they're all guilty in this situation. In a magical world where justice is actually served most of these people would not have jobs in a month or two. Instead the people without jobs will be the millions who have lost everything and found their government with its back turned. Remember that people are still dying because of this incompetence. Remember that when each and every one of these fools appears on TV for a photo op or complains about "placing blame later," because placing blame now is the only hope America has to change the situation.

How could this happen in the richest and most powerful nation in the world?

I kinda feel this is taken to much. They saw it coming, should have packed thier bags and moved. Its like people living in tornado alley and not expecting tornadoes. Also in the news videos how comei its only black people and 2 white people in the town? Because anyone who graduated high school knew to leave. Hopefully they wont be so stupid to rebuild it the same old way. New orleans has been getting worse and worse for crime that if you go off the main two tourists roads you have a good chance of getting,mugged or maybe even shot. well have a good day

Of course, I completely agree. Children are being raped, looting is uncontrolable, and thousands upon thousands of lives are being ripped apart, but who cares?! You have to pay a whole forty cents a litre more for gas. I mean come on, sure the whole situation is a bit bad, but extra money for gas?! THAT'S what the real problem is.

George Bush had to cut his month-long vacation TWO DAYS short in response to Hurricane Katrina. What a HUGE sacrifice. I don't think it should be legal for the president to take that much time off the job. Who knows how many vacation days he's taken in 6 years.

Because most of the people still stuck in the city are black people. They are the ones who failed to acknowledge the evacuation warning so they can stay behind and loot stores. Nobody likes black people because they do nothing but burden society and cause problems, so maybe that's why they took their sweet time helping them. That's just my theory.

Also, has anyone heard the recent news story of two black female officers who were looting stores along with some other black people?

Now that i got that out of the way, it really seems like the government dropped the ball on that one, they should have had tons of troops down there getting people out on the first day this stuff happened. Instead they waited a whole week before they did anything. In one of the strongest countries in the world, if not THE strongest, we have third world conditions in that city. Corpses everywhere, people just put sheets over them.
