    Will America Fall?

I've searched the forums for something like this and I didnt find anything on it so dont kill me if it has already been done.

I had my British Literature teacher ask me if I thought that America is an empire/dynasty and it it would fall like all past empires have.

I think that one day we will. It may not be in our lifetime but its most likely going to be a war, civil or world, or something is going to happen where we fall into another depression and we are going to be a third-world-country. So tell me what you think.

EDIT: And to let you know: Im not one of those people that hates America. I love living here so dont get me wrong about this question.

    RE: Will America Fall?

Nothing lasts forever, and america is just another example. Yes, it is a strong "empire" but the value of our currnecy is depleteing and eventually there will be a stock market crash or w/e and we will have another "great depression" War may also come to us and that could a lot of nations.

      RE: Will America Fall?

Yes, while America is strong and able to support other countries, eventually the same thing that happened to the Roman Empire will happen to America. Just for those that don't know, the Roman Empire collapsed from spreading itself too thin to keep under control while conquering neighboring countries.

It'll eventually fall. Hope I'm dead then, though. I don't want to die from hunger.

its pronounced "am-uur-ica". The whitehouse passed the bill this morning.

great depression? not unless china puts it's economy-bomb up... (one trillion...yes TRILLION american dollars american. Put that all up on the market at once and the currency will plummet and launch it into chaos) but extreme procautions have been taken over the thirties to stop over-inflation.

War? Maybe from N. Korea, i guess.

              RE: Will America Fall?

America will most certainly fall, but not in the way you'd think. Most empires (and according the the Conrad-Demarest model, America is an empire) fall due to a revolution (France) or to a series of internal and external causes (Rome). I believe that America will not fall but rather it will decline.

Economic forecasts predict China rising as a global superpower within the next century. That means they will dominate politically and economically over many other nations. Superior man-power and supplies could lead to the Chinese surpassing America economically and then take dominance as the new world superpower.

What is more likely than America's fall is increased globalization. National borders are nearly invisible lately, especially in the market. Trade between nations has gone above and beyond what many ever thought was possible. Improved communication, industrialization, and (for the most part) a new zeal in the prospect of capitalism should increase global production exponentially. I'm even more certain in this prediction than my other. China is more likely to begin this process sooner and become the predominant example, not necessarily dominant like in the other prediction.

In any case, nobody knows for sure. I'm absolutely sure, though, that it has nothing to do with the lie about our dollar losing value.

              Q

EDIT: Due to government intervention, the likelihood of any kind of severe depression is zilch. The most we're probably going to get is a nasty recession, like the kind we pulled out of recently.

                RE: Will America Fall?

And I think the opposite, America will one day fall when it loses all its allies and is forcibly removed as a main player... one day the EU will just pose sanctions on USA and place a full embargo while OPEC does the same, etcetera... clearly this won't happen anytime soon, but that's how its going to go down most likely

I'm very offended by this, why make a topic like this. Of course we will never fall, unless its at the hand of god. You also said that we might fall due to a civil war(and world but im talking about civil), we've made it through one civil, we can make it through the rest. Im not saying your an anti american so please dont get offended by what i said.

Falcon, I don't understand why you would be offended by something like this. Eventually everything will come to an end. Just like the Earth my some day come to an end, however, that will be MANY MANY years from now but still, it will come to an end.

I, on the other hand, do think America will someday fall. It could be under the control of another country more powerful than us or some killer disease could come and wipe out a majority of us (very unlikely however).

This is an example of both sides of the argument, yes its long, but hey its critical thinking.

                        Skater1S4 [5:31 P.M.]: ya
                        xanderman2064 [5:31 P.M.]: It's Q.
                        Skater1S4 [5:31 P.M.]: o hi
xanderman2064 [5:31 P.M.]: What makes you even begin to think that we'll never fall?
Skater1S4 [5:32 P.M.]: we're just to strong of a country physically and mentally.
Skater1S4 [5:32 P.M.]: we value are country and its cause, its important to us, so why would we let it fall?
xanderman2064 [5:33 P.M.]: Because the cause of our country is bullshit that no one agrees on, we're mentally weak because of this, and we're not exempt from history.
Skater1S4 [5:34 P.M.]: OK, what do you think our cause is?
                        xanderman2064 [5:35 P.M.]: I don't care about our cause.
                        xanderman2064 [5:35 P.M.]: I care about me.
xanderman2064 [5:35 P.M.]: I care about the people who care about me.
                        xanderman2064 [5:35 P.M.]: That's it.
Skater1S4 [5:36 P.M.]: What do you think the cause of the united nations is, we want peace, not all this war crap thats been going lately.
Skater1S4 [5:37 P.M.]: Thats selfish that you only care about yourself
xanderman2064 [5:37 P.M.]: Ironically, our country can't keep its guns in tow long enough to create peace.
                        Skater1S4 [5:37 P.M.]: you have a point
                        xanderman2064 [5:37 P.M.]: We will fall.
                        xanderman2064 [5:37 P.M.]: It's inevitable.
xanderman2064 [5:37 P.M.]: To say otherwise is to be ignorant of history.
Skater1S4 [5:38 P.M.]: i dont think so, its your opinion, i love this country and im loyal to it i will never doubt it no matter what anybody says
                        xanderman2064 [5:39 P.M.]: Bush's an idiot.
Skater1S4 [5:40 P.M.]: yes he is an idiot, but i like how he runs the country
                        xanderman2064 [5:40 P.M.]: Bah. He's restricting personal freedoms.
Skater1S4 [5:40 P.M.]: i dont agree on how he goes and bombs everything though
                        xanderman2064 [5:40 P.M.]: I don't agree how he expands the governemnt.
                        xanderman2064 [5:40 P.M.]: Why can't I type?
                        xanderman2064 [5:41 P.M.]: Geez.
                        Skater1S4 [5:41 P.M.]: Hmm
xanderman2064 [5:42 P.M.]: Don't tell me you think that laws are good.
Skater1S4 [5:43 P.M.]: Yes, i do think that laws are good, thats what keeps our country in line(sort of) i dont agree with some of the laws though
                        xanderman2064 [5:43 P.M.]: I don't believe in them
                        Skater1S4 [5:44 P.M.]: i do
                        xanderman2064 [5:44 P.M.]: Why?
Skater1S4 [5:45 P.M.]: like i said before it keeps our country in line, its what we are based on, its our system, you have to belive in them
                        xanderman2064 [5:45 P.M.]: No I don't.
                        xanderman2064 [5:45 P.M.]: I believe in capitalism.
                        xanderman2064 [5:46 P.M.]: I believe in the free market.
                        Skater1S4 [5:46 P.M.]: -_-
xanderman2064 [5:46 P.M.]: As long as there are laws restricting it, in any possible way, I'm opposed.
Skater1S4 [5:46 P.M.]: well, you are intitled to your opinion
xanderman2064 [5:47 P.M.]: You're entitled to my opinion as well.
xanderman2064 [5:47 P.M.]: Mine has logical support, though.
                        Skater1S4 [5:47 P.M.]: mine has morral support
                        xanderman2064 [5:47 P.M.]: Morality...no.
                        xanderman2064 [5:48 P.M.]: Yours has
                        xanderman2064 [5:48 P.M.]: "follow blindly" support
xanderman2064 [5:48 P.M.]: Morality is an issue of personal philosophy.
                        Skater1S4 [5:48 P.M.]: mmmhhhmmmm
xanderman2064 [5:48 P.M.]: I, personally, believe in rationality. That means independent thinking.
xanderman2064 [5:48 P.M.]: It also means that I don't take my ideas from the media, propoganda, or parents/guardians/teachers
Skater1S4 [5:49 P.M.]: i dont take ideas from the media, but i do from parents and teachers
Skater1S4 [5:49 P.M.]: what i do not like about this country though is, its controlled by the media
Skater1S4 [5:49 P.M.]: and soon the world will be
xanderman2064 [5:50 P.M.]: Then you're taking crap from the government and more crap from immoral blindmen.
                        Skater1S4 [5:50 P.M.]: and thats a shame
                        xanderman2064 [5:50 P.M.]: Wow.
xanderman2064 [5:50 P.M.]: That's another popular view that is horribly wrong.
                        Skater1S4 [5:50 P.M.]: how so?
xanderman2064 [5:51 P.M.]: How does the meda control us?
                        xanderman2064 [5:51 P.M.]: At all?
xanderman2064 [5:51 P.M.]: I am not dependent on the media in any way.
xanderman2064 [5:51 P.M.]: My opinions are separate from those of the media.
Skater1S4 [5:51 P.M.]: the own, influence, sway us if you will in the directions they want us to go in
Skater1S4 [5:52 P.M.]: why do you think people started smoking, having permiscuose sex, not spending time with family? ill tell you why
                        xanderman2064 [5:53 P.M.]: Independent thinking!
Skater1S4 [5:54 P.M.]: because the media is everywhere in our homes, TV, computer, books, foods, cartoons(even kids), were swayed by our peers, billboards, music, movies, radio, POP UPS! they own everything, there for they controll almost everuthing
                        Skater1S4 [5:54 P.M.]: everything**
xanderman2064 [5:55 P.M.]: I'm sorry, but I think opinions that ignorant should not be uttered.
xanderman2064 [5:55 P.M.]: If you'll excuse me, I'm off to think about things.
                        xanderman2064 [5:55 P.M.]: Try it sometime.
Skater1S4 [5:55 P.M.]: really, i just put alot of thinking into that, i gave you an intelligent answer not some opinion
xanderman2064 [5:56 P.M.]: The people don't do things because the media said so.
Skater1S4 [5:57 P.M.]: not said so, they nudged them in the direction of that, everything you see on tv and anywhere else is swaying you in a direction
Skater1S4 [5:58 P.M.]: i think this should be posted in the "will amaerica fall" thread because this conversations explains both sides of the arguement

Skater1S4 [5:59 P.M.]: no, you confronted me, you are being ignorent, sayiong opinions shouldnt be uttered, thats ingnorent.

                          RE: Re: Will America Fall?

One has to wonder whether China's increasing industrialization and modernization will decrease the stability of the Communist government. Personally, I feel that China's economic and cultural changes will lead eventually to democratization and with that democratization, more regulations will be imposed on China's manufacturing centers, since currently China has none, and factories can pollute as much as they want. (China is the world's leading polluter).

As for whether China's rise means anything about America's fall... I doubt it. Personally I think America lacks a unity of vision. The salad bowl effect of all the ethnicities and cultures present creates too much argument about the direction the future should take. I think it is more likely that in the long run America will split apart, if it is to decline at all.

The other possible future is one of increased global cooperation, in which larger nations merge themselves. I don't see this happening though until space colonization becomes feasible and one country alone can't fund it.

Either way it is several centuries ahead of us.

                            RE: Re: Will America Fall?

I think it's ironic that America's intitial cause was Independence, and Q thinks that there is no cause anymore except bullshit causes, and he's all for Independence. He's living the dream.

And Q, you started a fight and then called him stupid. I enjoyed the first chunk of the conversation because I respect both sides. Yes, I think America will fall, but I also think that there's a stark lack in faith of the government.

I honestly like our government, and so far, my personal freedoms? Perfectly fine. No restrictions over here.

wow, and to think i wasted my time reading that whole thing. Basically all it said was Q is smart. And falcon not so much. Although I could be biased because I heavily disagree when people say the media is to blame for what Falcon talked about (smoking, promiscuous sex, etc...). In fact there are so many FCC regulations on smoking, it's rediculous. As for why people are doing those things, in the example of sex, because they want to. Sex is a natural urge, and people want to fulfill that urge. They aren't doing it because movies show it in a stylized fashion. In fact I'd wager to say that back in the days before media was prevalent, or before media period, there was just as much if not more promiscuous sex going on. In fact I can almost gurantee it. I don't pay enough attention to politics to know much about the current rise, or prediction or rise for China, so I won't comment. Also falcon, why do you take ideas from parents and teachers if (according to you) most people are affected by the media, then won't they just be passing their 'media-corrupted' ideals onto you? Perhaps you should just not listen to what anyone says, sit in a corner, and play tic-tac-toe. At least then no one will be trying to tell you what to think. Pure idiocy.
