Think you can get your solving time in under two hours Elite Ninja? Some guy named seishinbyou got it done under that time.

      ...Dear santa

Actually how much does the Teraminx and a Petaminx run for normally?

      Step 1) Express an opinion
      Step 2) Wait....

The record is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VEdU0cRiPw] under 40 (And under 15 for the computer version.) I'm sure Elite Ninja could get a lot faster than the previous time if he did it in one sitting and did one full center at a time, though.

Yeah I will try doing it in one sitting over the weekend and find a way to record it all. I should have solved each full center at first but I was dumb and didn't do that :P

post saved, looks like I need to learn how to solve a cube in <50s before AN

Well, for me, a puzzle's difficulty shouldn't be hugely dependent on how difficult it is to turn. You can take most 3x3x3 cubes, silicone 'em up, and they'll be decent enough for most people. The same cannot be said for the bigger cubes, in my experience. Again, though, maybe the bigger cubes have gotten much sturdier/faster over the past 7 years or so. I always became frustrated at the notion of being bottlenecked by things other than how quickly I could spot pieces, leverage algorithms, or take advantage of position.

I believe I owned a Meffert's 5x5x5 back in the day. It completely murdered my wrists every time, and eventually broke down one day out of nowhere. I'm fairly certain that was the last time I bothered with the bigger cubes.

Idk, I just feel like the bigger cubes are basically 3x3x3's that take longer to solve, cost more, and are harder to turn. Any extra difficulties that can be attributed to things like search times and optimizations just don't come across as particularly compelling to me.

Something like the Teraminx might be fun to solve, but maybe just once -- after that, I'd have no reason to do it again.

Uh, yeah, they definitely have. If this is most of your argument, you should realize your opinion is based on very old equipment. The amount that cubing technology has improved, even in the past 1-2 years, is incredible.

To be honest, it doesn't sound like you dislike big cubes as such; it sounds like, for you, any solving itself is a chore. Maybe you just like being good at stuff, by itself, and taking 50 seconds instead of 15 for a solve feels like a waste of time for you. That's not at all typical of cubers, though. For someone who really likes solving by itself, a puzzle that takes longer and is more mentally challenging would be more fun. (And personally, it's partly that, and partly that I like endurance events precisely because there's so much of a mental gap between a decent solver and a really good solver.)

Arguably so. Hmm, this makes me think a bit.

Well, at least, cubesolving a chore to me *now* -- didn't used to feel that way though, of course. I think it's the same reason I got bored with FFR/SM/DDR/etc. After a certain point, it's not as challenging anymore and all it does is cause hand/wrist pain anyway.

I think for me the desired mental challenge is overcoming *new* things and certain defined barriers. After that, it becomes less interesting. Once I passed my goal of 12s on the 3x3x3, I got bored. Once I passed my goal of 1 minute blindfolded, I got bored. Once I AAA'd most of the files on this site, I got bored. Once I solved most of the PE problems, I got bored. Once I achieved all the badges on Kongregate, I got bored.

I enjoy solving/gaming/etc for the sake of it, but after a certain level of achievement it moves away from being fun to just being a repetitive ho-hum same-old seen-this-before type of thing. My bias against bigger cubes is amplified by the notion that I'm simply impatient and don't see anything new or interesting about the bigger cubes that the smaller cubes don't already offer in some way. Then again I'd probably love the 5x5x5 more if I actually bothered to pick up a smooth-turning, recent model -- maybe I'd be pleasantly surprised.

I have a v-cube 5x5x5 and it turns amazingly smooth (almost too smooth haha) after lubing it. I used to have a 5x5x5 eastsheen or whatever before the v-cubes were out and it turned decent but came apart all the time and caught on itself quite often. The v-cube 7x7x7 has amazing turning as well. Only issue I have with v-cube is the sticker quality and the 6x6x6 (which they will probably improve when they come out with the 6b if they ever do). I just noticed they recently released a v-cube 3x3x3 and I might be getting it seeing that my old 3x3x3 rubiks cube from Wal-Mart is completely ravaged and doesnt turn the best.

Marcus you should get a Latch Cube. It's quite a challenge
