    Taco or Burrito?

What is the difference between a taco and a burrito?

Does it depend on the contents or the folding? Can you have a taco with refried beans? Can you have a burrito that is open on top?

There doesn't seem to be any clear definition, but the majority appears to say that the folding is the defining factor.

When I was growing up we'd always eat tacos with meat and burritos with beans, but we'd fold both of them. It seems stupid to eat them wide open when everything falls out after every bite. Now when I eat tacos I fold them up, and people tell me it suddenly becomes a burrito. This seems pretty ridiculous. Tacos have meat; burritos have beans. Apparently I was wrong =/.

I think one of the defining factors of a burrito in comparison to a taco, is the tortilla size. Note that both (usually) use only one tortilla (although, in some tacos, two tortillas for the sake of holding it all together), but the sizes are vastly different.

Tacos have tortillas that are folded over once while burritos are wrapped.

Which is why if a soggy tortilla used, it is annoying as fuc when trying to eat a taco.

Is this even debatable? A taco is open, a burrito is wrapped.

Also, tacos tend to have tortillas that are more crisp (at least from the mexican restaurants I've been to and when I went down to Mexico a few times), while burritos usually have softer tortillas.

Like I said, tacos that are soggy are a pain in the ass to eat and they're really messy lol.

but soft shelled and open is still considered a soft taco.

there are no limits to what a taco can have or what a burrito can have. it all depends on what you have at hand

It also depends on how greasy the filling is. I've had tacos soaked with orange grease from beef filling and the entire thing fell apart.
