    Re: Freerunning

I'd love to get into doing this kind of thing. For now all I can do is simple handstand obstacle courses though (I've almost mastered walking up staircases!!!)

We have a couple playground places around me where there seems to be potential to try out some stuff, I just might. My friend is already into doing flips and stuff and he's pretty good at it.

I think that anything incredibly challenging such as this definitely deserves a warehouse type deal. Again this is really just intense gymnastics, and hell they go to the Olympics for that. I honestly am glad to see hype for these kinds of events rising.

P.s. ABDC is in season 6 now w00t

        Rofl, yes, thanks omega.

Having a "mock neighborhood" is a fantastic idea and you should be slapped for not thinking so. Padded/spring floors aren't exactly something you can take with you to the streets, and it's always best to practice in an environment like this.

@Spenner: Walking up stairs is incredibly hard, holy crap. How long have you been doing this?

I do parkour, but not free running. Yes there is a difference.

Yeah not really. If you want to get into the differences in the aspect of one being more geared to efficiency, that's understandable...but that also makes freerunning one step above parkour, adding artistic flair to efficiency.

              Re: Freerunning

The difference is that one does flips, the other doesn't. They both go from place to place, but one does it for shpwing off tricks, the other gets to the other point as fast as possible in a difficult way. If a person strictly doing parkour, run side by side with a free runner, the person doing parkour will most likely get to the end first. Given that a person doing flips, sometimes has to take a few more seconds to set themselves up to do a flip. And Wiki isn't a valid resource IMO. :/

                Re: Freerunning

Parkour is all about getting from Point A to Point B as fast and efficiently as possible. It includes many vaults but no flips, as flips aren't efficient.

Freerunning is rarely about Point A to Point B, and it's not efficient whatsoever. It's based on objects from an urban environment and using them to do tricks and flips.

Yes, there is a difference. Yes, I'm only 17. But Yes, I do partake in both, have for my entire life even before knowing there was a name for it, and know what I'm talking about.

What really sucks is that there are NO gyms around here. There's one specifically for gymnastics, but it's expensive, not very good, and you have to do exactly what they tell you. There is also barely anywhere decent around here. Halifax is okay, but it's 2 hours away. I have been on the roof of many buildings in the area. I did flips on our school roof

Any tips on working yourself up for flips off of a roof? haha.

Work your way up. Also, maybe drag an old matress out if you can.

I actually started off frontflips with a bike ramp, since I couldn't get the full rotation on flat ground. I can easily now, but it also gave me a little comfort with small heights.

If you're confident enough, and have practiced from a height before, you shouldn't have a problem.

I feel like, personally, freerunning would be.. better for you than parkour, if that makes any sense. When jumping off of high places, landing and rolling can't be as hard on your body as just landing on your feet. I dunno. Maybe it's just me. Nevertheless, I want to learn how to do that. xD

People do that in parkour as well, actually. It's not as needed to actually jump from such heights, but rolling is more efficient than breaking a leg!

You pretty much just roll if you are jumping from a height where your legs can't support your weight when you land, or if you have a ton of forward momentum it's really hard to just keep running when you land. Rolling DEFINITELY is easier on the shins and feet than a normal impact.

Right. Rolls are just a lot less common in parkour. xD
