    Freerunning

Anyone else dabble in it? I'm not insane at it or anything, but I make it a point to climb anything and everything I possibly can whenever I head to SF, which is pretty often. I can already do some basic gymnastic tumbling, forward and back handsprings, gainers, standing flips, etc, but I'm a little terrified to start trying them off of large objects haha. Especially ones with cement at the bottom of the drop.

Next time I'm in LA, I'm making a weekend out of this place holy shit.

You know this fails when they call it "freerunning" and they have a "academy" for it.

Edit: Still looks like a interesting "academy" though.

Yeah because learning is totally not cool.

And having an alternative name for something isn't cool either.

Parkour/freerunning seems more like trendy bullshit now back when it first originated 5 or 6 years ago. I tried it for a bit, joined a parkour team, found out I had bad knees so that's that.

I'd love to do that stuff but I feel like I'm too old at this point to be trying to learn to be that acrobatic lol. That place looks awesome though.

                  Re: Freerunning

I really wanted to (and still kinda do) pick up freerunning after watching some youtube vids but I can't even muster the courage to try and do flips most of the time (and fail the other half)

Over the summer when I have more time I might go nearby to a local playground or something and start messing around maybe; there's not a lot of places I can experiment here and I don't want to ****ing wreck myself while other people are watching B)

PS that place looks pretty cool lol (or maybe it was the people heh)

I don't see parkour as just a fad or something, it's a semi-useful set of skills that get you from point A to point B with disregard for obstacles.

Sometimes you have to just trust your body, thinking too much about what you're trying to accomplish gets you scared. Probably why I'm scared of the acrobatic stuff at heights, I overthink things. Only acrobatic thing I'm perfectly comfortable with is the cherry drop (swinging from a bar into a backflip).

                      Re: Freerunning

My younger brothers are in gymnastics, and from what I see at their meets, I'm completely amazed. To be able to pull off stunts like these on command must be one of the greatest feelings of liberation there is. If this gets bigger and there's an 'academy' nearby someday I'm definitely checking it out. Freerunning/parkour always seemed too dangerous for me to try out myself... I'm in the suburbs--nobody jumps off random walls/cliffs/etc.

Yeah, I used to do that urban ninja stuff. I had a group of friends, we'd play the Parkour version of SKATE where you'd have to do a trick like flip off something or jump to something else and if you failed you got a letter. It was a lot of fun!

I always see these things and find it both amazing and kind of silly. On one hand, its absolutely awe-inspiring to see the level of athleticism to it. On the other hand, to make it competitive seems silly (like colorguard. Yea I went there) and dedicating an entire warehouse to a mock-neighborhood seems sort of pointless to do.
