No, nothing to do with me at all. This is just someone I know from back home in OR who made some really stupid life decisions. But I have no idea what to expect.

Honestly, again it depends on the amount he had on him at the time. If it's not much, he will get pretty much a slap on the wrist with fines and MAYBE .... maybe probation/community service or rehab. Even with the slightest drugs they'll send you to rehab if they find out you use it. 9/10 times a deliver/possesion charge means you use them. As long as it's his first offense they should be "alright."

You can get 10 years AND $10000 fine. However, there are a whole list of factors that could lessen or heighten the charges.

I'm in Oregon. Best I've heard of is 5 years, and that person was 17 years old.

                EDIT...

For people convicted of delivering or manufacturing cocaine, ecstasy, heroin or methamphetamine, prison sentences would range from 58 to 130 months, or 34 to 72 months, depending on drug amounts involved, a person's criminal history and whether it was sold to a person younger than 18.

This is assuming the 2008 Measure 57 was passed and according to this site it was passed with a 61% vote, so that's the sentencing range you can expect.

yeah because asking people for anecdotal data points is completely the same thing as hiring a lawyer for a case that has nothing to do with me and asking him for... advice?

                  the mentally-bereft make me giggle

"Hire a lawyer" is good anecdotal advice.

It's not looking good, but nothing's for sure yet.
