    Re: Computer space problem

Interestingly enough, I've noticed the very same thing on my new Vista laptop.

Recently I haven't been noticing any decrease in storage space, but while I was setting up my laptop last month I felt that I lost a ton of extra space on my hard drive for no apparent reason.

Interesting to hear someone else think this was odd.

I have 120GB of space taken up on my hard drive, but I have way less stuff on this computer than I did on my XP computer and it only had about 70GB worth of stuff. I don't download any music or videos either. I have no way to explain this extra 50GB of lost space unless Vista really has that much bloatcode.

Gilly, it may also be your system restore -- go to the command prompt and type vssadmin list shadowstorage -- if you think it's using too much, do vss resize shadowstorage /On=C: /For=C: /Maxsize=50GB (example)

Hey that did it. It was using up 136 GB and now I put it to 50 and have 800 gigs of free space.

        Thanks.

Why exactly was it using so much, and consuming more and more every day?

I didn't read the thread, but I have a good feeling a lot of space can be used up for system restore. I usually disable it on my computers.

System Restore has saved my ass at least four times in recent memory, so I just let it take up as much space as it wants. Never had a problem with it myself.

It's saved me a few times as well. As long as I'm not pressed for space, I don't see why I should disable it.

How do I make my computer work in space?
