I'm going to warn you that there is a graphic image (It is someone's lung after all). I saw this over on the explosm forums and wanted to share it with you all.

    I'm lost for words.

Wow that's ridiculous stuff. I didn't think a tree could grow without sunlight and covered in blood.

Real or not, that's disturbing. I wonder what the outcome would've been if the person didn't get surgery.

I posted the story to a few friends, and we started trying to think of ways that it would be possible:

                  Gigispackles: It's graphic?
SpykeMH: >.< how is it growing without light?!!
Sumote: Apparently. They put a warning on it on FFR. <_<
Sumote: Well, a plant needs light in order to get nutrients, right? Maybe the sam nutrients are in the human lung? <_<
                  Nishthedish: holy...
Nishthedish: I have no clue what to say
SpykeMH: plants need sunlight for the process of making sugars which are later used for energy
SpykeMH: >.< I don't think there's that much simple sugar in a lung

                  Sumote: XD
SpykeMH: >.> well admittedly it /is/ getting carbon dioxide... and oxygen for when it breaks the sugars down
SpykeMH: <.< not that the CO2 means anything what with the lack of photosynthesis
SpykeMH: ....if it had rooted all the way............wait...question answered
SpykeMH: was gunna say if it had gotten to his bloodstream wouldn't there be blood in his lungs? ...but it says he had "been coughing up blood."
Now we're not experts or anything on the subject at all, but does this idea sound possible at all?

Re: Man grows tree in his lung.

sumote just because other places have the same story as the sun doesn't necessarily led credibility to it

I mean, The Sun reported that Eddie Murphy was going to be the Riddler in the next Batman film and that not only would Robin be appearing, but he'd be played by Even Stevens alum Shia LaBeouf. A bunch of other places started reporting on it too, and it became huge even though it was clearly false.

Simply put, a conifer may be able to take root in a dead person's lungs, but not only would it not be able to grow without photosynthesis, but a living person's lung would reject the foreign material.

If the story is real, the more obvious explanation is that dude inhaled a PIECE of an existing plant and got it removed via surgery. I still find it hard to believe that he wouldn't notice inhaling such a large thing, but I suppose it is possible.

                        Yeah it's not real.

Besides the whole obvious photosynthesis issue I read two very good points on another blog.

                        1. Fir trees sprout roots before they make needles. There were no roots or whatever else in his lung, just the needles.

                        2. Those are mature needles in the picture. When they are new they are flexible and much paler.

Actually, it might be real. I read what afrobean wrote, and from that, I just assumed it was fake off that, though I was in the car with my mom right now going to get some food and she brought it up, apparently it was on channel 7 news, she said it was national news or whatever. Yeah, something fake could get on the news I know, but I'm not really sure if it's fake anymore, sounds kinda real to me. I'm still pretty surprised and confused as to how it all happened, assuming it's true though, I wouldn't be very surprised if it did turn out to be fake.

                            No.

For all of the reasons I applied combined with travman's astute observations, there is no way that this story is true as they're telling us. If the photo in the article is legitimate, and this truly did come out of a man's lung, the only explanation is that he somehow inhaled a PART of a mature plant. Homeboy did not inhale a SEED and said inhaled SEED would not SPROUT AND GROW into the thing we see in the photo.

Seriously, The Sun is ****ing garbage. You know those papers in the supermarket checkouts that talk of Bigfoot marrying aliens from Uranus? The Sun's credibility lands somewhere just barely north of them. They are a ****ing joke and should not be taken seriously.
