I stopped reading about almost halfway through I was getting a little angry with how people are actually doing these irresponsible things.

Re: Am I the only one creeped out by this?

my high school had 5 pregnant freshman
one was on her second kid
      14 year old freshman girls
only a year older than this guy

      this is not news worthy
the story is not about some miracle
      its not about a tragedy
      its not about a discovery
      its gossipy filth
it is a desperate attempt by the news to have a story
      and or
sick exploitation of their kid by the family who are probably getting paid for the exclusive story

      and once again to reiterate
      that girl is ugly
      this story is stupid

This article isn't just about that particular couple, it really shows how this problem is in general. Do you think it's alright for people 14 and under to be sexually active and breeding? For that matter, anyone in high school? Or incapable of raising a child? Are people becoming desensitized to this, in our civilized, and relatively affluent society? They shouldn't be. This is a real problem. You seeing it often around your schools is even more cause to be concerned about it.

I don't want to get into the finer points of this, but the article is justified. The story is ridiculous, and you're right, it is stupid. But the point isn't to say "oh girl's ugly oh boy's small." You're supposed to talk about the issue. No it isn't a miracle, or a tragedy, but it isn't gossip either. It's bringing the issue up again, for everyone to see. Not all people are in highschool, surrounded by pregnant bimbos. Some people need a reality check again. THIS is a reality check.

How are we supposed to prevent these things from happening?

Re: Am I the only one creeped out by this?

obviously the way to resolve it
is to write everything we do
          in crappy poem form
          like something off of gaia

and then laugh at people who do it
          and maybe they'll quit
and if not then we'll feel better
          about ourselves

You shouldn't talk down to people you don't know anything about, acting like you know more and then try to show them up in the forum. That's how you get absolutely no where.

Re: Am I the only one creeped out by this?

And what is considered news-worthy in the first place? Does it really have to be a rare occurrence? It's the responsibility of the media to consider what it collectively reports - what is reported influences understanding of what is happening in the world. This is why I hate TV news; there's sensationalized violence, with robberies, drug busts, shootings, fires, and suicides, but there's not nearly enough positive stuff to balance it, so that influences the perceptions of the people watching into believing that there is little good in the world, and therefore apathy is the best road to take instead of getting involved in the community and trying to change things around them.

I wouldn't say that the Sun is a high profile news source, but diversity is important as well. This story may be common, but I'd hardly say that it's unjustified simply because it's happened before. Light needs to be shed on this to bring it to peoples' attention, and once it's in the public consciousness maybe things can change because people will see a need to do something about it. If it has to ride the disgusting media circus train to get there, so be it.

I have no sympathy for them though; if they can't keep their pants on at that age, it's their fault and they should be condemned to suffer. The sad thing is the system suffers as a result and so do their children who have to be raised by people who are kids themselves.

Men don't normally get pregnant I've gathered.

Besides that, I don't know about the sympathy thing. They are very young. I can think of plenty of things I did without really realizing what I was doing, or what the consequences were for my actions, when I was younger. I agree that they are responsible, but not that they have full responsibility. 13 isn't the age to make decisions of that sort, it's up to the parents to educate their children to make correct ones.

And so I fault them both. They may regret it later in life, but they sure as hell don't now. I don't know if it's sheer stupidity or ignorance, or what, but in any case, yes.

I've actually seen posters here trying to educate people about teenage pregnancy.

Oh, god. My boyfriend gave me the link to the article about that story earlier today. The girlfriend looks like she is the MOTHER of that boy, and that baby there is the boy's new-born sibling. /facepalm. I don't know what people are thinking these days. D; /dies a little inside.

I don't think 'creeped out' is the best way to describe the feeling I get from reading this.

I'm going to go with 'disgusted'.

It sucks when a teenager has a kid and realises that his life is ****ed.
Its funny when a kid has a kid and probably grasp that his life is ****ed.

What the **** am I talkin about? The kid will only be 31 when his child is out of the house! That dude is ****ing brilliant!
