K new problem now.

My computer is turning on by itself now. It happened twice. The first time I thought I may have just hit a button accidentally, but the second time I was nowhere near the computer. Really creeped out now. Any suggestions?

From being fully turned off or from Standby or Hibernation?
If its doing it from when its fully turned off then WTF?

It's just on standby, but still it shouldn't be doing that.

I'm running spybot again to see if it's picking something else up. I hope it does because otherwise this will be a looooong night.

That happens with my computer but that's just because I bought a used PSU (Handles the voltage) and it's a bit fickle. Now if this isn't a hardware issue...you're computer would be unable to do anything hardrive related as it requires power and so does. Now a possibility is the virus saved a file onto a piece of hardware. The IT guy at my school was explaining to me that these are starting to become more common. If it's turning your computer off and on it's probably where your BIOS is stored which is your motherboard. I'm just assuming this as I do know there is some of power going though there all the time, that's how your systems clock still continues to run. If that's the cause you're SOL and have to buy a new motherboard.

NOTE: Take what I'm saying here with a grain of salt. I'm saying this with the limited information and I can't say I'm sure whether this is even possible, just heard about it though word of mouth.


EDIT: Oh btw there's a switch on your PSU (It's where the power cord goes into your computer) there's a little switch. Turn it off when you're not using your computer and it won't turn on a gain...acts as unplugging your computer. If you don't see any more symptoms of a virus you should be fine.

That would be a hardware issue if it's not turning on at all. Also if you really don't care to get rid of the virus...reformat unless you want to learn about dealing with them or just like a challenge.

My computer will shut off if it overheats.

It's turning on though, that's why I'm worried.

I got some baaaaaaaaad viruses. We checked, and it's not a hardware problem. sdfwfdasdf

If certain registry files are deleted it will do this. This can be as simple as a batch file embedded in anything with the simple lines of code:

cd\
del boot.ini

Or even


del tree c


However with tehIt's really retarded how it's so easy to destroy a machine. So yeah I would suggest reformatting.

If you add me on MSN, AIM, or YIM I can help you more but...you need to get your OS disc and boot up your computer from there by selecting boot from disc as first priority in your BIOS. Then follow the instructions
