Extract the ISO file with WinRAR.

It worked just fine when I did that.

Vista honestly isn't that bad. When my friend first got it 2 years ago, personally at a first glance I thought it was crap. After learning a lot more about computers over the past few years, Vista really is good. All this excessive RAM people say it use, is really it just using RAM that isn't currently being used to preform background tasks, however they're set at a lower priority than applications or what the user is actually doing. I also hear you can disable all those stupid pop-ups that ask you if you really want to do things. Those aren't really a bad idea anyway as they prevent a lot of malware from doing things but there are always work-arounds eventually.

If you wanted to do this on XP or any other OS you could download a 3rd party codec...it's what I've done with this computer for XP because the codec I got by default was corrupted as I'm not running a legit copy of Windows.

vista isnt tat bad. but still, windows 7 provides more features, but tats only the beta.

I agree...Windows 7 is MUCH better from what I hear. Just wanted to state Vista wasn't "bad" rather than just people being sheeps to popular opinion. I can't wait to try Windows 7.

EDIT: Started downloading it steadily at ~60Kb/s...I'll give my thoughts tomorrow or the day after hopefully. (Picked up and jumps between that and 200Kb/s...will be done by tomorrow I hope)

Okay WTF... Upon finishing my DL of Left 4 Dead, I happily start playing it under the thought of it's gonna be great since all other games worked marvelously but NOOOO, it lagged so ****ing hard I was barely able to get my options open to turn down and/or off all of my graphics settings to the lowest they could possibly be and after all that I still lag a little when hordes come in... WTF...

Is your computer under the qualifications of the game? It might be a part of your comp, not the OS

It seems that any program that i install, if theres even a bit of compatibility problem, it will cause the whole system to lag. Window7 is stable, only under the condition when you install only what its completely compatible of. Well..big list of compatibility anyway.

it seems windows7 doesn't have that great of a foreign policy >.>

                  Re: Windows 7 Beta release!

I've seen windows 7, but I'm not running it.

                  It's really shiny <3

So far, it seems to be very stable, surprisingly, and it seems to be a bunch smoother than Vista.

And I love, more than anything, the beta fish background that it starts with as the background.

                    It's a DVD-ROM image.

You're supposed to burn the downloaded file onto a DVD, but I find extracting it 300 million times easier.

Got back to school and installed it onto a secondary hard drive. Dualbooting vista and W7. Seems pretty smooth, I hope it turns out good once more drivers are available.

Anyone know how windows 7 is with stepmania?

edit: bummer, stepmania and ffr work just as terrible on W7 as they do for vista.

Really? I ran stepmania on W7 and it worked really well once I got a global offset worked out

Stepmania is screwed up for me, even with the same display drivers I used in Vista. Black lines rapidly keep flashing up and down on the screen, which is like playing with a mod named "ANNOYING AS ¤_¤".

I might try another display driver, but it sucks since the one I'm currently using delivers best performance.

More like it's not the OS's fault and your computer just sucks.

Don't judge Windows 7 yet. If you deleted your Vista partition you're a dumb ass cause this is a beta and like any beta has a bunch of bugs. Even when the OS is commercially released it's bound to have some bugs just like any OS, they're way to big to perfect.

I won't be installing Windows 7 again soon, it looks like it's going to be nice but it doesn't run my games easily and smoothly yet. Stickin to Debian OSs anyway.
