Right now it seems that Facebook is clearly winning, since all of my friends have it and left Myspace behind.
I don't use any of them though since it's just a waste of time IMO.
Facebook is clearly picking up in popularity, but MySpace is still solidly in the lead.
It used to be where MySpace was the only social website mentioned online, but now I see plenty of movies and TV shows and such where Facebook is mentioned.
Thing is, MySpace got there first and has the competitive edge, much like Apple has a competitive edge over Microsoft in the mp3 player market - all because they got there first, not necessarily because they have the better player, although I digress considering it's a matter of opinion for the most part.
My own personal opinion is that Facebook is a lot cleaner (thus faster), their ads are so much less distracting, and the whole implementing AJAX (I believe that's what it's called) is definitely a step in the right direction.

I totally agree, Facebook's ads are boxes to the side of the page whereas Myspace you are sometimes forced to go through ads in order to go to a desired page.
If MySpace had no ads, it would be a waste as the site obtains so many hits and viewers a day that it is the perfect opportunity for ads to make money. Just as any other business, their aim is to make money, not to truly make you happy. They offer a product / service that attracts people, and they use this to their advantage through ads in order to make money.

Uh notice that I didn't say anything about the quantity of ads on either site.
When someone tells me to check my MySpace I use my mobile web. It means I have no ads. Just but in mobile.myspace.com and you'll be on the mobile version -- no ads. The same is why I like using mobile web for FFR. No ads. I don't have a mouse to mouse over them with, lol.

Well ads aren't even the bulk of the difference between Facebook and MySpace.
Facebook runs smoother and seems to have a lot better ideas than MySpace. Obviously MySpace has realized this and has started adding Apps and updating its interface.
Myspace and Facebook aren't so good in my oppinion. I prefer Livejournal and DA.
Go look at MyFace. It's pretty awesome, and has the best slogan ever.
"What? No! We didnt combine Myspace and Facebook! This is MyFace. What? Yeah! I KNOW THAT. I KNOW "

MyFace looks like a complete waste of time.
It's unorganized, cluttered, and chock full of 10x the amount of ads Facebook and MySpace have combined ... and that's saying something.
