I wouldn't call them a joke. I'd much rather put weight into an IQ test score than most tests people are often forced to take, like the LSAT or MCAT, which are terrible predictors of anything what so ever and serve no purpose in their existence other than to waste peoples time (and make selection processes convenient for administrators).
I realize correlation isn't causation, but that's the best we have and ever will have, given the nature of using statistics by necessity when dealing with human attributes you can't measure directly.
