    STOP IT.

JESUS CHRIST WHY MUST YOU ALL TRY TO HAVE THE LAST WORD IN AN INTERNET ARGUMENT.

Some of you believe in God, some of you don't. We don't allow religious arguments because some of you from both sides can't handle your opinions like mature people. Knock it off.

Stretchy - I basically wrote that except nicer =[.

Also, back to water on mars. Really it was just a meteorite made of ice that hit Mars. We were all just looking the wrong way when it happened.

        Re: Water on Mars?!

This thread became pointless when we brought god into this. I also think this thread should've gone in critical thinking just so it wouldn't get bombarded with idiotic posts.

Yes, they found ice on Mars, they've said there has been water/ice on mars before. This is no big suprise to me what-so-ever.
        the average temperature on Mars is about 218 °K (-55 °C, -67 °F)
I don't think they will ever find water, they will always find ice. The reason there is ice is because water cant evaporate if it's in a solid (ie. ICE) as you guys already know.

They found DEFINITIVE proof. They were just making sure this time.

            Re: Water on Mars?!

Any thread that contains religion in it is pointless.

Mars used to be like Earth to be honest. From what I learned (Geography/Earth Science Major) Something happened in that Mars gained distance which ultimatly made Mars colder and killed all life. Mars had water and still does because of ice. From what I learned, Mars was actually a giant swamp with dinosaur like creatures living on it. It had more water than even Earth has even today. Rivers and tributaries can be seen clearly on the surface of mars. The entire planet was tropical and extremely humid as well as hot. Also, Mars used to have plate techtonics (Olympus Mons and Valles Marineris, the deepest and most longest canyon in our solar system). On the point of Olympus Mons, its rumored that the eruption of the sheild volcano was so massive, that it killed life on the planet. The north poles is basically one massive ice cap.

Seriously though. Be smart and dont bring religion to these threads. You're just asking to be either flamed or wanting to create more drama. If you want drama, just go ask any girl how her day went.

              Re: Water on Mars?!

yea ive been watching the news about how they found old inlets on mars that used to have water flowing from them. And the ice that they found is just icing on the cake.

It was only a matter of time that they would find water! yay

I'm not sure if this is true, but IIRC, i thought i heard a viable source that said mars' climate could of been very similiar to Earths so many thousands of years ago.

Interesting stuff, i like learning about space and planets on history channel!

I'm not sure what the original proof was, but they've assumed Mars has ice caps for quite some time. At least this is, like Pokelda mentioned, definite proof.

by tasted they probably mean they've analyzed what the water contains

Well I thought they had "theories" before that life existed on Mars and it contained water. Now they proved that water existed.

                      Mars = ice = water

                      Okay then.

Also, there are some creatures, tubeworms mostly, that live in volcanic discharge vents at the bottom of the ocean. The tempature is around 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
(this was on that discovery channel show, ocean, I think)
Why can't we have cold tube worms on Mars?

But seriously, this is really interesting. What confuses me is that people say that there may have been life on Mars in the past. It was my understanding that the sun heats up and expands over time, which seems to contradict the idea that the ice was once liquid water and that it was hotter there, hot enough for life? I must be missing something.

Mars once had a thicker atmosphere like Earth did, which might helped create a viable environment for life. Now there's little atmosphere left - the sun's radiation probably kills off any life there. Humans would get cancer trying to live on Mars without some kind of protection.

Also, the equator of Mars can reach up to around plus 20 degrees celsius. However, you won't find liquid water there, because liquid water is highly unstable in Mars' environment compared to Earth's.

We can't really say as we don't know the history of the planet accurately. If Mars was once a place where cells could evolve, maybe there are creatures under the surface or in the ice that are able to live. As Carl Sagan says "Biology is more like History than Physics, you have to understand the past, to understand the present." He explains it very well in this video theorizing about possible (but unlikely) life on Jupiter as an example.

EDIT: I too was thinking somebody was just going to post that glass of water on a mars bar picture.

If this thread gets locked because of religion, i'm gonna be pissed. Instead of sharing our point of views about god, why don't we just stick to this particular topic? Is it so hard? I posted this thread because i thought it was interesting and i wanted the read other people's opinion. oh by the way, shouldn't the water have been evaporated by now and does it rain on Mars?
