    Re: New Computer issues

Yes, Vista 64 does tend to have quite a few driver issues, so I wouldn't recommend it right now. A lot of users are buying it and then buying 4gb RAM (as opposed to the increased 8gb capacity), which I find hilarious since they can already use 3.5gb with their 32-bit OS and the larger memory footprint of the 64-bit memory addresses will end up completely outweighing the benefits.

However, since more and more people are using it (for the wrong reasons, but it doesn't matter) it will likely garner enough support for drivers and programs to eventually work properly. I'd still stick with 32-bit for most applications, though.

I use 32-bit Home Premium and it recognized my 4 gigs of DDR3 RAM on the very first boot. I didn't have to modify anything.

32-bit operating systems can technically recognize up to 4096mb of RAM, but the actual amount they'll end up using is 3.5gb. That said, it's not worth going with 64 bit for the 512mb usable RAM you'll end up wasting anyways.

I'm running 32-bit Home Premium on my laptop (2.4ghz dual core, 3gb RAM) and I'm about to upgrade from XP on my main machine to Vista Ultimate (bought the OEM version and a new 750gb HDD from Seagate with 32mb cache.. *drool*)

        My main system specs?

Intel QX9650 3.0 GHz Quad Core 45-nm processor
        EVGA 780i SLI mobo
        8800 GT 512mb x2 in SLI
        4gb DDR2 1066MHz RAM with 5-5-5-15 timings (OCZ)
750gb HDD 32mb cache from Seagate
850w OCZ GameXStream PSU (yeah, a waste, I know)
        CM Stacker SE

        and for my audio setup:
        RME Fireface 800
        JBL 4328 x2
        +numerous other software/hardware

I'm considering swapping out the 780i mobo for a new Intel mobo and getting two 4850's or 4870's in Crossfire. I'm not buying a GTX280 as I had originally planned, they're far too expensive for what they do.

Well I got it to work. It's a simple HP Pavillion dv9000.
          3 GB DDR2 Ram
Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium (because basic does suck more)
          AMD Turion 64 x2 2.4 GHz processor
Nvidia GeForce Go 7150 video card 1071 MB
250 GB Hard Drive, no idea what type

          And for extra goodies
Built in web cam and microphone
          Altec Lansing Speakers
320 GB External Hardrive 5200 RPM
          And the pea mocks me.

          AAA's to date- 2
          Newest- Excite Bike

Not true. I use winamp w/ my iPod all of he time and it works fine. Little add on they have, and no, you don't have to pay for it.
Funny stuff goes in this area right?

That still doesn't fix his issue with iTunes.

Solving the problem is trying to help him be able to install iTunes, not simply to suggest alternatives. If he wanted alternatives, he might have asked.
