Also, Spec would be the one to talk to about signing up for the military to help pay for school.
If you don't want to go that route, federal aid is based upon what your expected contribution will be, so you answer questions related to your income/scholarships, and any income that will be contributed by parents or guardians. Since you're not expecting any family help, you should qualify for good loans that you might not have to pay back in full or at all, but you need to apply soon because aid is given on both a needs and a first-come-first-serve basis.
As useless as I find counselors, they are generally pretty knowledgeable about available college scholarships in your area/field of study.
Well it's too late to change my FASFA this year, but next year I should be able to get a lot more aid. I had a counselor but he was total ****, telling me I needed to open up to my dad about his problem and such (which at the point he was at, it was all to late). I'm planning on hitting up my schools scholarship board tomorrow morning with pen and paper in hand to get as much info on anything as possible. Thank you FFR for at least letting me vent.
