I Need Windows Xp Help!

So one day, my computer goes and freezes. So I just hold the off button to turn it off on its own.

But now the next day, none of my .exe or .lnk files work! In the Start Menu, every icon has that unknown file icon, instead of the icons they SHOULD have. I'd give you a screenshot, but Paint doesn't work. Help me

This deffinetly dosen't sound good.
And how DID you open your internet browser?
Also, could you provide more info? Your best bet here sounds like a system restore.

When you boot press f5 or f8 before windows would normally start loading. Then select safe mode at top. THen log into the admin account. Click start, all programs, accessories, system tools, then system restore. It will bring up a calender. Choose the most recent date available before the mix up. If this doesn't work throw in your XP cd and reload windows, do not erase the partition. Choose the same drive and "leave file system intact" ...copy files...wait wait wait reboot. Load antivrus, service pack 2, updates. rinse wash repeat

Long story short. I can't figure out exactly why shutting down would cause your links/.exe files to stop working though... And I work with computers regularly.

Not really. Because he could still be posting on a different computer. It isn't that hard to take a picture and put it on a USB drive and upload the picture on a different computer.

Which then should imply that he would've thought about that, had he been on a different computer.

But now this is all entirely irrelevant anyway, so why are we still discussing it? Just do a system restore and the problem should go away.
