    Telemarketers

So I just got into a verbal tussel with a telemarketer that just called the house and man am I amped now. I love messing with telemarketers.

My parents just switched our phone service so Sprint has been calling the house about five times a day without leaving a message. My parents don't answer numbers they don't know so after being awaken by these pricks the past few days and having my work being interrupted by phone calls numerous times today, I answered the fifth call they placed today within six hours. A gentleman asks for my father, and I tell him he's not available and ask if I can leave a message. He says a message isn't necessary and I reply by saying if this isn't important enough to leave a message, please stop calling, this is the fifth time you've called today. The telemarketer goes on to say only the person in charge of phone bill can authorize a do-not-call and I tell him that we're not interested in whatever he is selling, please stop calling. His response is laughably awesome - I'm not trying to sell you something, I'm trying to save you on your monthly phone bill. I call him a liar and repeat not to call again. He states he can accept a do not call from me. I then ask him if he can accept one from the police (even though the police won't do anything in a case like this - my parents did prior business with them so legally they do have a right to contact us for follow-up service - the word police always ruffles people up and this rate I was hoping for a rebutal argument and a good intellectual fight). After that he says all of his company's information in one breath and hangs up.

I was sad that I didn't get a good fight out of him but I'm happy to say it's been three hours since that phone call and the phone hasn't rang once. Peace and quiet finally. Do you have any good telemarketer stories?

AH. This is SOOOOO much fun. When they call, just randomly say something (sounding in Japanese preferrably) and then wait. See what kind of reactions you get. Mine laughed and hung up. I couldn't get out of stitches for 20 minutes.

Haha. I just say "not available" and hang up. Well, on news over here, there was a telemarkerter who abused, and threatened this family out in the rural areas. They were going on about that they were going to stalk the family, stab someone and all. The police couldn't trace anything back to anyone.

Actually, it's not hard to avoid talking with telemarketers. If you notice the telltale cue of a delay before getting connected with a telemarketer, hang up right away. If you accidentally hung up on your friend, he or she will call back if it's important enough.

Sometimes dialing a certain number while on a telemarketing call can screw up the phone line; if the telemarketer suddenly says, "Excuse me, we have some technical difficulties" then you know you've screwed them.

Also, it can be interesting to leave the phone alone and see how long a telemarketer babbles on and on.

When telemarketers usually call my house, I usually tell them that they've called Pizza Hut or something. Its so hilarious! One day I'm a barber, the next day, I'm Geico.

If the telemarketer introduces himself with his full name and company, ask him to call back a little later. In the meantime you look up his address, civic registration number and so on.

When he calls back, you tell him you want what he's offering. To finish the deal, he will probably start asking for information about you, like address and civic registration number. But instead of giving out your information, you give out his. That should freak him out.

Then you can follow it up by spending the rest of the day ordering free stuff in his name.

I always talk really smoothly on the phone, especially if it's someone I know I can't be silly to. It's always a woman that calls, and we always get into conversations...

I had one with a lady about coupons and growing up in her hometown, then I had another with an ISP technical support agent about home networking and families, she talked with me for about an hour before she had to go home from work.

People just love talking to me on the phone XD

                    Re: Telemarketers

Well, yeah, obviously there is a noticable delay from when you pick up the phone to when the machine puts the telemarketer through. You can hang up, sure, but then they just keep calling back. When you mess with them, chances are they won't call back.

My parents' phone number is very similar to our local Auto Zone's so on very rare occasions I get to have some real fun with people who call thinking the house is an Auto Zone. Sadly I'd have to say the last time I caught one of those was right before I moved away five years ago.

Unfortunately most of the gags won't work since I've already talked to this particular telemarketer. Next time I want a real fight with him. It's going be to like on Halo where when someone kills a person, they crouch repeatedly to hump their head. I'm so going to rub it in on him next time we meet.

Well... pretty much I had one call once. And more or less along the same lines as yours but when they said they wern't selling anything, I pretty much aske dif they were recording, then just started screaming rape, b****, f***, c*** and among other things all into one stream, them told them to never ring again . The police called, but I told them that it was a telemarketer providing fasle information...they let me go .

Because the calls that telemarketers pick up are randomized, they don't really come back after I hang up.

Another interesting thing to do is to reply "yes" to everything they ask. Then hang up.
