Or you could simply let it alone, note the fact that he did say sorry for his rudeness, and be on your merry way as you walk away and say to yourself "Boy, that person is an idiot."

Just an idea.

I know you like to stand up for new members in the community, but, there's a point where it just becomes ridiculous. You're correcting a person's grammar who corrected a person's grammar. A bit much, yes?

No. Like I said. If he wants to point out importance of spelling and grammar so badly, then so be it... I can too to him... Irony anybody? haha

But yeah... There are certain things that people do, I walk away saying "Moron. Effing Moron.", but then there are certain things that are very sensitive subjects, such as very hotty racial slurs in the forums. This is no different. ...y'Know?

...That and I didn't see the appology when I initially made this thread... But I'm glad it's there

I'd say 95% of the people using this website are Americans.

That being said, it's easy to generalize. It's just as easy to cover up for your mistakes in the event that the 5% present themselves. Just a simple "Sorry, I didn't know."

I have no indication that either of the two people you're referencing are from outside of this country.

Yeah, it's safe to assume that anyone who comes here is a native speaker of English. If they're not, they should let us know and they get a pass on their grammar. It's happened twice to me before, when I got onto people in CT.

I agree, though, that if you're going to criticize someone's grammar, you should have good grammar yourself.

This guy doesn't sound like a foreigner, he just sounds stupid.

I find bitching about spelling to be very pretentious, and it irks me when conversation takes a backseat to criticism about grammar or spelling. If it's absolutely terrible like "hi u r ppl n wat r up?", then it's worth a mention. If the person spells "Floccinaucinihilipilification" incorrectly, just shut up and stop being such a twat.

If you want to be rediculous I could start with tenses, verb-noun agreement, conjunctions (are not supposed to be used in "proper english"), etc.

I'm sure you can find a ton of errors in my post as as well, but you're not writing an essay in every post. so just relax a little bit. =]

I already knew what he said. It's no excuse. I spoke French and Bulgarian before I learned English. I can understand a spelling mistake or something of the sort, but the fact that English is not his first language does not give him a free pass to break forum rules as well. You can be a foreigner without being stupid.

Actually, it pretty much does. English isn't learned overnight, so until you can exhibit a fluency, making grammatical and spelling errors (especially in such a screwed up language) will be tolerated.

You, on the other hand, are clearly fluent, so more is expected of you.

I think it's just because the forum goers feel like they are superior when they rudely point out others mistakes (which either small or big, no big deal at all really) and feel the sensitivitylessness of putting them down to a state where the other person may feel upset and thus making the forum goers feel "good" about themselves, in which they probably shouldn't do, because it's very disrespectful and rude, and noone should be treated that way because noone would intentionally treat you that way usually, so really, respect people the way you would want to be respected. This does not go for all forum goers, and does not apply to all that are rude, I am just briefly describing one example to this point. Feel free to disagree, I really want to know how you guys really feel about all this "grammar" and "spelling" problems going on in forums and crap.
